Need help with gradient overlays
Hey guys,
I'm making personal website and I am having trouble creating a certain image
With the image above I am trying to get the white gradient over the entire image. I created the different colors by using ellipses overlayed with different shades of gray (good or bad idea to do it that way?) My problem is that I had to put the white gradient on the layers behind the 3 colored ellipses because I couldn't get white for one color and have the other be transparent.
Does anyone understand what I am trying to say? haha, I can post my PSD file if anyone needs it, any help is appreciated

I believe if I understand correctly what you asking that you want to make the top layer pure white, lower the opacity of it and then apply a layer mask

I created a mask binding the 4 layers (background layer, 3 ellipses) but how do I make the gradient over all them now? There are no blending properties in the right click menu for the layer mask and the gradient tool doesn't seem to be working (or I don't know how to use it right)

the second default gradient will do this

I ended up linking the layers together in a group then masking them with a gradient, it took me a while to figure out how to create a gradient mask though haha

Alternatively you could have set the gradient tool to "foreground to transparent" ensuring the foreground colour was white, then used that on a new layer at the top of the stacking order.
