Now I use XP 32 bit and nTune works at least.
FSB 250 are stable (2.875 MHz), higher isn't possible with nTune.

Does anyone knows another tool which works with this board and higher clocks?

Clockgen freezes the system, Overdrive doesn't even startup, and the BIOS options still show no effect.

So please help me to reach the 3 GHz
Overdrive won't work on nForce board (except for multi in rare occasions).
You can try K10Stat to manipulate at least voltages and multis up to their maximum.

2.8GHz 8 cores is still nice Can you show some Cinebench scores?
    Good luck

    a litte setback
FSB 250 was't stable, all 3 types of cpus won't go higher than 241 MHz FSB @ default voltage.

    2344HE "BA" / "B1" -> 2.050 Mhz
    2356 "B3" -> 2.772 MHz

    HTT: 600 MHz / 3x
    ram: 266 MHz

    screenshot nTune + CPU-Z

But I just tried K10 stat and - I love you - it works

I just need some more testings (and better cooler) but it seems that with higher voltage the FSB 250 is save.

    EselMetaller,

The ECC function of your system are enabled?, Please post the screenshot of the "Memory" tab of CPUZ.

    yes ECC was enabled.

I don't have some screenshots at this time cause the psu died and I have to wait for a new one (460 Watts just with two cpus @ load, one harddisk and a 2MB PCI GPU)

    Another thing:
I also bought a L1N64 WS with normal bios chip. I used a chip with the newest bios version but no bootscreen, neither with the 2347, 2352 nor the 2356
Now I'll sell the board and try an Asus KFN4-D16 for my second system.

Does anybody knows some overclocking tools for XP x64?
nTune doesn't work, even the older versions which supports XP x64.

    Some tips for L1N64 owners

    Hi guys,
Just to focus and help people who have the L1N64-SLI (every version).
In order to make the barcelona run on this motherboard you need the ASUS WS/B bios (every version is good since 0.401).
Be careful because newest motherboards revisions may have soldered bios chip (maybe asus discovered that some people like us were using unofficial bios chips??? ).
Other than that there are a lot of problems with ram, I discovered that the system behaviour is very different depending on which OS is running and ram density:
The only way to use DDR2 at 800MHz speed is to use a 32bit OS (It's strange I know, but i tested it...).
However this motherboard Is limited to non SE cpus, so we can run only 22XX and 23XX up to 2356 (2.3GHz).
It is possible to clock the motherboard higher than 250HTT by using ntunes, (works under XP-64 too but 64bit OSs are less stable on barcelona CPUs), simply create multiple profiles for ntune and edit them with notepad changing the FSB/HTT speed by hand (they are simple text files). In order to jump up in frequency we need to create multiple profiles starting from 250HTT making a profile for each step like 250->252->254 and load the sequentially.
By using this method I managed to reach 270HTT (the limit I think) but only under Vista32 and XP32 (that gaves me only 2Gb out if 8 of ram).
I hope that these tips are useful, Now it's time to change motherboard maybe switching for a S-2915....

If anyone has some suggestions about good workstation motherboards feel free to say!

Hi guys, a slight thread resurrection! Also a bit of a long post

I have been scouting ebay for a cheap cruncher for a few days now, my original plan was to grab a mini-itx LGA775 board and run an Intel E6320 along with two GB of ram.

However I stumbled across a pair of 8347HE Barcelona's for a steal. I now have the fun task of finding a motherboard to run them, this is when I came across this thread. I have read every post and looked at the dual AMD thread but there is so much information its hard to take in!

    My choices are:

    Tyan S2912G2NR for £50 + delivery

    ASUS L1N64-SLI WS for £95 + delivery

    ASUS KFN4-D16 for £100 + delivery

    MSI K9ND Speedster-WA6 for £125 + delivery

The guy selling the Tyan S2912 boards says that they run 2352 and 2360 quad Barcelona's, so I'm assuming they have the latest BIOS on them.

There are so many choices, I'm pretty confused! All I want is the best bang for buck cruncher. So by spending more money on a board that will allow me to overclock will even out the cost of the Tyan if that can't overclock.

Now the 8347 Opteron runs a 1.9GHz with four cores, if I can two of them on a Tyan at around 2.3GHz this is the route I'll take.

Can anyone enlighten me to this dual quad opteron scene, and possibly tell me what PPD I can expect on WCG.

    Thanks in advance

I would like to start off by saying thank you to you and everyone else on this thread. I have spent months following this thread and decided to join the conversation (since I have purchased a asus L1N64-SLI WS).

    My Questions are:
    1. Does the L1n64-SLI ws support high density ram (256 x 64 instead of the regular low density 128 x 64)?
    I have 4GB of this MDD2-800-256X64 high density ram, it's a DDR2 800 non ecc/buffered?

    and

    2. With the hacked bios (ASUS-L1N64-WS-0505-MOD-R8) + a quad core Barcelona (like a 2352) what is the operating speed of the ram? I ask this because in a post yankeex86x stated "The only way to use DDR2 at 800MHz speed is to use a 32bit OS". I have Vista ultimate X64

    and finally

    3. Has anyone tried running this motherboard on Windows 7?

Kind of. 22xx will run with non-ECC, but you may have to disable ECC in BIOS. Bit of a catch-22. I'm sure someone with the board will confirm/infirm soon

Resurrection again. Just wondering the answer to this. Now that it's getting near the time for me to upgrade again, I'm wondering if anyone has tried to get an Istanbul to run on the WS/B.

To the poster who asked about istanbul, it won't work with that board. Istanbul requires dual dynamic power management, and that board was created before that feature was available.
I read that on the AMD forums, but it was a poster with only 128 posts so I'm not sure what to make of it.

    So, anyone try it yet?

I have 2 opty 2222's on the way, as well as an L1N64 non-B. What memory do I need, then? Not sure about what to get... registered/ecc/whatever.

    1. any VDDR mod for this board
    2. is there a hack that lets me play with timings on this with one of the later bios's
    3. will this boot with a 2218 on the non/b with the original bios
    4. what /b bios should i flash to
    5. if i water cool this board what would fit it

good find less than what i paid for mine and i thought i got a steal check ebay on the chips i think i paid maybe $50 total for both the quads i picked up.

hopefully they can pull off some ok clocks on AMD quad heatpipe coolers off the 965BE (i found a pair of them) but my eventual goal is some kind of overclocking AMD based quad 6 core board i dont care if i have to get it from AMD myself

Bump. My K9ND died so I did a full rebuild and have my L1N64 up and running Using the WS/B BIOS, no quad-cores yet, though...

I just wanted to enquire, does the fin section of the chipset heasink cool anything directly? ie. are there any MOSFETs, etc., under it? The chipsets get really toasty even with plenty of airflow and I am considering replacing the stock cooler with two VC-REs...

    pics soon

    Apologies for the phone pics:

I used the stock QuadFX heatpipe coolers with a 70-120mm fan adapter. Had to dremel up the original fans and use them as shrouds/mounts as there was no way the adapter was going to clip to the heatsink ;]

Getting pretty good CPU temps, around 45 degrees under stress. And fairly quiet, too - CPU fans are low-speed San Ace.

Nice surprise. I was expecting BA or B2.

They are Opteron 23FF embedded CPUs, 45W...

Just stress-testing atm, then to set-up lm_sensors and then try to OVERCLOCK!!!

I was under the impression that WS/B bios when used with the WS did not allow for BIOS overclocking. Confirm or deny? If it does I'm going to pick up a couple of Barcelonas again.

I sold my K9ND + 8354 combo becuase the lack of BIOS features was irritating to me.
