hi!! i have a question, i own a l1n64 ws/b MB and two optys 2352. i have not the memories yet, but when i turn on the pc it not post. and it no warning me with beeps for the memories. This is because i have not the memory or the 2352 are incompatibles with the MB???
Thanks a lot!!
i think you were trying to check if the cpus will work and buy checking with out ram you know if the cpu will post cause it checks for them first then ram but there is no pc speaker on the board so you have to install your own if you didnt already

i have a pc speaker, it come with the MB and work perfectly, i test it separately. but nothing happend, no beeps come out and the screen is blanck. but i read a post here from yankee that says he dont get a beeps with out a memory installed.
Hi,
even if 2352(B3) are not offcially supported, they work without problems.
I made the same thing as you before getting my reg rams; don't worry, the situation is different between FXs and Barcelonas.
FX IMC don't require the bit parity check with ram, so when they are initialized they don't ask for ram directly so the motherboard makes a beed (noRAM beepCode).
Barcelona based processor's IMC require the parity check with ram due to their design, so if there is no ram available the IMC can't initialize and the processor won't initialize, so the motherboard can't even know that a CPU (or both) is installed.
Trust me, there's no problem, your system will work when ram arrives.
welcome to the dual socket world!

Hi there all, im back on a L1n64 system from a Phenom setup. Quick question: will this board support tri-sli. Thanks in advance. Still running FX70's @ 3.2 but seems opty 's the way to go
1. On average, how much more do the desktop chips overclock compared to the server chips (considering that Shanghai / Deneb are coming out soon).
2. Is the primary "problem" with overclocking server chips the motherboards?
Win XP Pro x64 / Win 7 x64 / Phenom II / Asus m3a79-t Deluxe / 8x2 GB GSkill and some other stuff.....
Hi all, was able to pick up a couple 8346HE opty's for around $100 but now I need a motherboard, I've been able to find both the MSI K9ND speedster, and L1N64 non /B for pretty good prices, but I dont have another processor to flash the bios with - so can any1 confirm that the barcelonas work on the Speedster, and would anybody be able to send me a bios chip with the right bios to throw in one of these two boards (of course I would pay for the chip and your time). Lastly, since the new server chips are about to come out and they will be socket 1207 I was thinking it would be better to buy a nice mobo that will support the newer chips for upgrades down the road - are any of these boards available and does any1 have suggestions?
Thanks for any help

Hey yankeex86x, I tried to email you but I'm not sure if it went through, I've got the WS/B and was wondering if you did anything special to get the 2350(B3) to work or are you just on the 0501 BIOS from Asus? If so, have you updated to the 0506 from Asus with no problems? I can't get my 2350 B3 to post but it posts fine with a 2212. Think its the processor or could it be the 0506 BIOS from Asus?

Barcelonas will work on the Speedster; but you will need an 8mb BIOS chip. I'm in the UK, otherwise I would have offered to send you a hotflashed one. I also have made an (as-yest untested; my board is in for RMA) BIOS for the K9ND with AthlonFX support, PM me if you want it...)
However, I'm kind of regretting spending an (admittedly low) £85 on a K9ND Speedster when there's deals like this around: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...12G2NR&cpc=SCH
That board also requires 8mb BIOS to run quad-cores, but for that price you can't really go wrong. Only trouble is you're out of luck if you want PCI slots...
P.S., this isn't really the place to discuss this. Come join us in the AMD 2CPU thread

The BIOS is done... PM me if you want a copy. Just note I have not tested it yet as my board in in for RMA, but I see no reason why it shouldn't work
The changes are:
- AlthonFX microcode support
- All ECC/Chipkill options set to DISABLE by default, so you don't have to swap in ECC memory after clearing CMOS
It is based on the MSI 210 BIOS so it will only work with 8mb BIOS chip, but if you want a 4mb version then ask me and I'll see what I can do. My time is limited at the moment.
I was at the micro center out east there is one of these boards for $214 there.
Managed to get mine to 2.4ghz. Anything over that and the system crashes. Even with the newest 0506 BIOS I had to use the Nvidia System Tune thing to OC it. Any FSB changes I made in the BIOS would stay, but they just wouldn't actually increase the FSB or the speed of the CPU.
SS taken with Prime95 25.6 running with 8 worker threads, 2 SMP and 2 GPU2 folding@home clients, EVGA Precision for 8800GS OCing and Everest for temp monitoring.
EDIT: Few minutes after posting that I BSOD'd. Restarted and brought it down to 235 FSB and it hung on apply. I'll keep trying and see if I can get it back up fully stable.

I've seen a few posts here with guys running the AMD Overdrive tool on these boards. How did you get it to run? When I download the latest version and run it, it says it doesn't detect an AMD R700 chipset.
Just got my system up and running today. Two 2347's! Just waiting for Shanghai to be released.
So we can flash a l1n64 directly to the b version without any tricks?
Nice, now you should join the folding team with all that power. And good question, the chipset is nvidia so I'm surprised the AMD OD tool worked at all.
Hmm, seems that yankeex86x flashed to the 0401 WS/B bios and then from there went up to the 0501 bios. Not sure if you can flash straight from the WS to the 0501 (0506 as it is now) WS/B.

I've got an Asus L1N64-SLI WS (not the /B-version), with BIOS 0505. It works nice with an opteron 8214, but I want to use quadcores on it: I have 2 Opteron 8347 HE's laying around.
So I flashed to the official 0506 WS/B-bios using a bootfloppy and afudos. The system still works with the opteron 8214 and regular (non-ecc, non-reg) RAM.
So I tried to put in a 8347 and a stick of DDR2-667 ecc/reg RAM, but the system doesn't boot...
Any idea what's wrong?
ppl are having problems getting Shangai's to boot. we someone to mod a bios to insert the code for these cpu dont wait for asus they didn't want support this board longer than they had to which is a shame because it started gaining some popularity. and started selling out everywhere but asus didnt care, and the shangai should clock like deneb but well never know if a oc dual k10 can hold its own against i7

I am testing a L1N64-SLI WS/B (BIOS 0506) and two Opteron 2354s. It works with four 1GB registered DDR2-800 DIMMs. But, there are no ECC options in BIOS menu. Memtest86+ also shows ECC function is disabled.
What's wrong with this configuration?
Now I'm a proud owner of a L1N64-B
I've just testet it with two Opteron 2344HE with "B1" stepping, and with two 2344HE "BA" stepping - works well.
But I also want to overclock and whatever I change in the "jumper free" section of the BIOS (cpu vcore, FSB) it has no effect. With both of the cpu types.
BIOS is 0401 and ram is 2x Kingston KVR667D2D4P5/2G = 2GB DDR2-677 registered with ECC.
Changing the ram clock works well.
What's wrong and how can I change the values so it works??
some news.
I've got the latest BIOS v0506 and put a pair Opteron 2356 stepping B3 onto the board.
First I installed Windows XP 64 but neither nTune works nor AMD overdrive and Clockgen.
Now I use XP 32 bit and nTune works at least.
FSB 250 are stable (2.875 MHz), higher isn't possible with nTune.
Does anyone knows another tool which works with this board and higher clocks?
Clockgen freezes the system, Overdrive doesn't even startup, and the BIOS options still show no effect.
So please help me to reach the 3 GHz
