    thats the worst review ever, if you have any idea how heatpipes work, you would know that the majority of them, when opened, immediately release their insides in the form of a gas. Had they done that test properly, they would have had the lab equipment setup to capture the gas as the heatpipe was opened.

    The guys testing methods are pathetic, I'm a little surprised he published this at all.
    He should be analyzing their heat transfer rates not cutting them open to listen for gas escaping or look at fluids running out. This completely fails as logic IMO.
    I haven't any doubt he is releasing TOXIC substances and doesn't realize it.

    It's Phoronix dude. The most intensive review they do of something is either firing up one or two OGL Linux benches, or test the load/idle tems of a proc at stock.

    Of course, what did they expect, that when they sliced a heatpipe open, litres of water would pour out? Let's face it, at best - in order to ensure a lack of bat pressure, there's a few droplets. And guess what, they're likely wedged right down in the ends, or somewhere else in the tube. They got lucky with the reaper...

    I love how the guy says,

    and then attempts to open them all with bare hands and probably without a mask. Oh yes and don't forget the picture with him trying to cut open some heat pipes with some $2 scissors.

    If he really wanted 2 test it in this manner. He could've cut the tips off and emptied the heat pipes (if there was anything in them) then test the cooler again to see if it performs better, worse or the same.

    Does anybody here work for any of the heatpipe companies and has anyone seen the manufacturing process? Was the wick moist? I doubt thy would use mercury?

    there just no f****in way they use mercury in it. maybe some kind of highly volatile gas or something , but no way such a highly toxic substance

    So, these "few droplets" of imaginery/invisible water magically boil at 100 C/212 F, regardless or any pressure or vacuum present, even if your CPU is only 30 C, travel up the wick/sponge, whether or not they actually exist, condenses at the cool end of the pipe, even though no difference in temp can be measured or felt, and instantly cool the other end of the heatpipe...

    Have I basically got this right?

    Pretty much. Lots of people think that all heat pipes have "stuff" filled in it. I don't even know why people think this. The vapor condensing is the critical part, that's why the pipes are not filled all the way. It's kind of similar how an AC works. Your AC system is filled with gas, not fluid. A similar exchange goes on in the heatpipe, but still... they are still very different.

    what about gallium it works like mercury but with larger partials so it dost seep into pores

    and so long as it works i dont see the problem and allows light tubes with lots of fins for higher surface aria so i dont see the point

    I have a coolermaster gemini what if i cut open the ends of the heatpipes and fill them up whit liters/gallons of artic silver 5. will this improve performance??? or is this not worth the try?
