Well unless there is a flurry of dx10.1 titles around the corner I can't see this affecting much of anything to be honest. We'll all be on 3rd or maybe 4th gen dx10 cards by the time there's probably enough titles to count on one hand that are dx10.1.

It's in-stock at RipBoomLie (for those who want to take their chances with them) for $280 shipped (normal stock clock version, gouged):

    8800GT for $280 O___O

I mean I understand if that's the market price, but that sure is hell isn't msrp.

If it's $280 shipped AND no taxes, then I think it's a passable deal.

Hmm, that reminds me, if nVidia releases D8E/G92-300, they indeed *can* claim a high end $500 card with 1 TFLOP of performance if it's a GX2 8800GT.

    http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?op...3654&Itemid=34

Of course at the earliest it's scheduled for January 2008, so if this is true nVidia will fail their statement of a 1TFLOP top sometime this year. And if a GX2 is the top end for the next generation, we're gonna have to wait a whole nother year probably for Geforce 9.

    So probably by then, we'll have 8-series SKUs from $180 - $500 : $179 256MB 8800GT, $239 512MB 8800GT, $329 640MB 112SP 8800GTS, $379 8800GTX, $429 8800 Ultra, and $499 8800GX2.

i thought the new gts was gunna have 128 shaders.

but if this is the intention of squeezing in more sub gtx cards.

It should be the same as the 320 vs 640 -- in DX10 mode (basically the highest detail textures are reserved for this setting in most games) at around 1600x1200 the 640 pulls away from the 320 significantly, and differences can start showing at 1280x1024. For the 256 vs 512, the differences will show up even earlier. But in games w/o those huge high quality textures, then there should be very little difference between the cards until you hit very high resolutions.

DX10 performance could possibly be worse than current 8800's due to memory bandwidth, DX10 seems to love lots of it.

Nah, DX10 aint more memory heavy than DX9. Its more shader tho due to the new shader.

Same reason AMD also drops from 512bit to 256bit memory controller. Not much benefit.

Hi, i've just signed up to ask a few questions after reading this (and the last, huge, GT anticipation thread).

Can someone please explain to me what kind of improvement you'd expect to see from two of the GT's in SLI? I've heard before SLI only gives about a 30% performance boost. Is this the case?

Also, will the new GTS support DX10.1?

no it ain't so always. sometimes u will get that 100+ improvement too. but rarely its above 100 and that too at very high resolutions. But expecting near 80%+ perf boost in sli is okay if the drivers and games support turns out to be be good enough. normally a near 50% boost is there if the support is proper. Also, if u may not know sli doesn't double vram.

U read about the 30% boost an its correct in some cases. Hopefully sli works in crysis demo, i think and gives a nice boost too.

BTW this is my first post here and a HI to all enthusiasts!

Me lucky one got hands of a 8800GT.
Having a rig with the n650 chipset i was wandering if there would be a big difference between running the Board on PCI-E x16 and PCI-E x8 (running dual Grafics the Board changes 1x PCI-E x16 to 2x PCI-E x8). Just did a simple 3DMark06 on Standard Test

    Testrig:
    Processor Intel Core 2 E6600
Graphics Driver NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
    DirectX Version 9.0c
    System Memory 2048 MB (667 3-3-3-12)
    Disk Space 476.95 GB (2x 250GB Samsung RAID 0)
    Motherboard Manufacturer ASUSTeK Computer INC.
    Motherboard Model P5N-E SLI
    Operating System Microsoft Windows XP

System is not OCed right now

    PCI-E x16 / PCI-E x8 (7900GT on second Slot)

    3DMark Score 10331 / 10178
    SM2.0 4881 / 4838
    SM 3.0 4989 / 4835
    CPU 2150 / 2147

    Return to Prox 40.148 / 40.037
    Firefly 41.202 / 40.592

    Canyon 49.17 / 48.33
    Deep Freeze 50.617 / 48.366

Seems like it hasn't a real impact on standard, but I'll increase the load with higher settings and AA/AF later to see how it is when the card gets really stressed.

Nice, altho I was more interested in the PCI-E linkspeed test. Looks like PCI-E 2.0 wil offer no performance increase at all at least as far as bandwitdh goes if there's no big difference between PCI-E 1 16x vs 8x either.

I thought in the one review it said it should line up. I ordered the Zalman Fatal1ty FC-ZV9 yesterday, figured might as well get a good cooler for it right away.

If that doesn't fit I will rip the VF-900 off my 7900 and try it.

I'm thinking of two of the 8800GTX-style coolers from Thermaltake for the cards, just waiting till my 2x 8800GT 512's come in before I order the coolers, as I want to make 100% sure they'll fit before I spend the cash.

    tested before with the 167.26
    checked now with 169.01 on PCI-E x8

    3DMark Score 10187 3DMarks
    SM 2.0 Score 4865 Marks
    SM 3.0 Score 4817 Marks
    CPU Score 2149 Marks

so not much of a difference.

    http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=198741

    Forceware 167.26 / PCI-E 8x = 10178 marks

    Forceware 169.01 / PCI-E 8x = 10187 marks

I had thought about one of those to vent the hot air but I am so happy with my Zalman VF-900 and seeing the Fatal1ty FC-ZV9 in the review I wanted to have it on hand when I get my card.

My case air flow is really good so I am not to worried about the hear lingering in the case.

Same here as far as case cooling, but I don't own any suitable coolers for these cards yet, so I'm looking at those ones .

No specs for the card though, might be nice for my secondary system

Lets me add to cart, $10 shipping
The specs list it as an 8600GT, *NOT* 8800, don't order it!
