    Unhappy Just when i thought...

It was barely a few days ago that i posted on the Note to Cat Lover's thread by uclajd, bringing back a flood of fresh memories on losing my cat Cola last December, and the worst seems to have repeated itself again

My cat Snuggles, who i have had for not even a year, seems to have disappeared The last time i saw him was last night after he had his dinner and went out... I spent the whole afternoon searching the complex to see if he had maybe gotten into a fight, and i walked the streets in the neighbourhood in the hope that he was not lying on the side of the road run over...nothing. I am devastated. The not-knowing is driving me insane, and i honestly don't know what to do now... the thought of grieving the loss of another pet yet again in the same year is breaking my heart. I just hope by some sheer stroke of luck, that he returns home soon.....

i'd keep things positive for now, though. my friend had a cat (later died of old age) who would disappear when they went on a few weeks vacation, and when they came back, their cat would come back just a few days later, completely taken care of himself. all i'm saying is that gone doesn't necessarily means dead.

Usually if nothing happens to cats, they will come back.

    Just keep your hopes up.

Well if a Sunday couldn't get any worse, it just did for me. A lady in the apartment complex found Snuggles hiding under her car.. unable to move. It seems he has been knocked over by a car, and it looks like his hip is broken By the sounds of it, she said it probably happened outside the complex, and he managed to drag himself closer to home in the hope of being found This is breaking my heart... i now have to try and find a vet open on a Sunday to take him to, and hope they can do something to alleviate his pain and find out what his injuries are I will post here an update as to what happens.

Good luck, there should be an emergency vet on call somewhere.

That is so sad. You must feel helpless...

My condolences. If you can't find any vets, then you should definatly try a hospital. Never hurts to try.

Just an update. I managed to find a 24 Hour Vet open yesterday, and Snuggles was admitted. They had to rehydrate him, give him painkillers and take x-rays to ascertain what his injuries were. Last night the vet called to confirm the findings of the x-rays... his one hip had multiple fractures but thankfully all his internal organs were ok. The 2 scenarios he gave options for were either he would need surgery to re-set the fractures, or bed rest and let nature take its course. This morning when the vet gave an update, he said he was happy with Snuggles progress, and the specialist recommended for now, since Snuggles is still a kitten, that with sufficient cage rest, that the bones would knit back on their own, without the need for surgery.

What makes me livid with anger is that there are thoughtless, careless and heartless people out there who think nothing of running over a poor animal, with no consideration that that animal is someone's pet and actually belongs to someone. Most don't even have any regard for their own lives let alone the lives of anyone or anything around them. They don't realise the financial strain it puts on the owner's of the pet for their wrong doing. I would really like to find the who knocked Snuggles over and get him/her to rightfully pay for my cat's vet bill that their carelessness and lack of conscience inflicted on him physically and now on me financially...believe me i would have a few colorful choice words to fling in their direction

Leora.. with respect for the cat and all. When it comes to night time, cars and cats... they tend to be rather stupid. Regularly running out at the last minute. And frankly for the safety of children in the car or the driver, it is unadvisable to swing to avoid animals in case one looses controls of the car. I don't think peopel purposefully run over cats.... but cats for all their animal instincs still manage to get themselves PWNED. Our ltitle kitten got pwned a few weeks so.

[XC] riptide, i agree and you have some very valid points that you mentioned. Yes, cats are rather free spirits whose natural instinct is to roam around, and under the circumstances whereby its impossible to avoid hitting an animal for the safety of the passengers and other vehicle drivers on the road, i completely agree, sometimes it is unavoidable. What i am talking about is drivers who speed down roads oblivious to what is going on around them whether it is just out of sheer carelessness or because they are under the influence, and those heartless idiots who, when they do hit an animal, don't even have the decency to stop and try to locate the owner (if the animal is wearing a name tag or such) or the very least, pick the animal up and put it on the side of the road

In the case of Snuggles, i suspect the incident happened during the day since that is when i found him, and it must have happened WITHIN the apartment complex, because if it happened in the road outside of the complex, he was in too serious of a condition to have dragged himself over or through electric gates to get into the complex. The gates are simply too high for a cat with his injuries to have jumped over, and the gates close very quickly so in his condition i can't see that he could have gotten through in time. I suspect someone in the complex reversed out carelessly without looking under or around their vehicle, either they did not notice he was there, or they noticed and didn't care about the fact that they knocked him over. That is what i am angry about. It just takes some consideration and being aware of one's surroundings, to at least prevent something like this happening.

An update on how the little guy is doing... just came back from visiting him at the vet. They are very happy with his progress, he has started walking about in his cage at least, eating a bit and with bed rest, should hopefully be better very soon.

I managed to take a photo of him whilst there and took his favorite blanket and toy with for him to remember a piece of home I'll keep the thread posted with any further developments.
