Essentially, the GT-R and Corvette will share the same mission from different sides of the Ocean. To show that Germans and Italians aren't the only ones that can build performance machines. However, when it comes to class... I think the Italians take the cake.
We'll see some GT-r vs Corvette stuff.. But I think that we'll see alot more GT-r vs Porsche/Ferrari stuff.
In the performance class, both can take em. But Corvette has already built up good reputation in Europe now. The Nissan will take some time for the others to bother looking, because most of its history is in Asia.

It makes perfect sense. Heck, everybody already does that when they compare new car to old car, and hopped up car to stock car.

This Asian guy rather take a bullet through the brain than drive that Skyline. I wouldn't mind taking the Corvette if I can't drive what I want.
I happen to like to eat rice, and I seem quite irritated when stupid looking Japanese/Korean cars are called rice cars lol

Walter Rohrl's time at the 'Ring was 7:28 in a Carrera GT, 7:32 in a 997 GT2 and 7:39 in a 997 GT3... and all three are *stock* cars without any modifications. I don't see Nissan with the guts to do a show down against either of these cars. They go pick on the ordinary 911 Turbo passenger car. BTW, the 997 Turbo stock car does the 'Ring at 7:40 (recorded and confirmed), and so its still faster than the Skyline rofl .
We know that the stock F430 does the 'Ring in 7:55 and the stock 599GTB does the 'Ring at 7:59. I bet the Scuderia will do the 'Ring at about 7:35 and the Enzo should do the 'Ring at sub-7:30, but times have not been recorded.

Well, if its an 09 car, the Z06 won't be a production model anymore. It'll be the C7, Z07, ZR-1. It'll take more than the GT-R to steal Vette sales. The Vette's got it where it counts and it can prove it. So it'll be a tough competition for Euro Exotic ousters, since the Vette now can handle it well, and the next version will be a sincere improvement across the trim levels.
So it'll definately be a hard one for Nissan, I hope they have their marketing caps on. They are going to need it.
And that's not a blow to them from me. Its just an observation based on the fact that the Corvette has gained a world wide reputation now in the world community of performance cars. Because of that, they have inspired a lot of anticipation for the next Vette that it will be difficult for Nissan to outshine that in the eyes of a great deal of people in such an immediate sense as I think they want. And that's not to say that they don't intend on heavy marketing. I bet they do.

No offense friend, but you obviously have no idea of the reputation of the Skyline. The Skyline has a worldwide reputation too, for being an absolute grip and performance monster for it's price, just like the Vette, except the Nissan is practical too.
The thing is is that there are Jap motor people and there are american domestic people. Doesn't matter how good the Vette may be to the Skyline or how good the Skyline may be compared to the Vette, very VERY few people will switch sides.
The way I see it, if the GT-R did run 7:35 like the link I posted says and this isn't the highest performance version to be released then the Blue Devil has a lot of work to do. IF the GTR ran 7:35.
I don't think you're getting my point. I am not saying that the GT-R and skyline are garbage, no-body cares about, worthless no reputation cars. I think its well established that this car will be an impressive performer. However, I bet if you had the time, you could go do a little experiment.
Ask 100 random people what a Corvette is. Then ask 100 different random people what a Nissan Skyline is. You would note that you'd have to say Nissan, just so they don't start talking about cities. Most of the people that find the GT-R on the showroom floor will have seen it just then, as they wandered in. However, they wouldn't have had to walk into a Chevy dealership to know what a Corvette is. Skyline's have been around before, but not as many people know anything about them.
What I am saying is cold hard truth. That in America, it will take a sincere advertising effort. I challenge anyone to prove to me that it won't. Because any new model will require such an effort. You see all those 08 CTS commercials don't you. It was the same thing in 04. It doesn't mean that Nissan is weak. Calm down.
Its a fact, the Corvette is a household name as far as cars go over here in the States. Nissan Skyline is not. If we could truly poll the population, you would see what I mean. There is no question that a great deal of people are anticipating the arrival of the GT-R.
I am saying, that I think Nissan is gonna have some work ahead of them to push it through to success, and I wouldn't be against them succeeding. They haven't sold a Skyline over here for a while. There are reasons for that. But I doubt they will overturn alot of Vette faithfuls.

Agreed... as you said, in the states.
But in any case, it doesn't matter if the general population know of the Vette, or Skyline because the general population won't be buying the car. A car enthusiast will be buying such a car. In the states, that buyer would know of both and even if the Skyline is a bit faster would still buy the Vette. Cause the population is faithful and they would know more about the car, but vice versa in Japan and a few european countries.
Not a lot of Skylines were sold in the US because they weren't legal there for ages and they have to be imported anyway. Just like the Vette to here.
Yikes, come on guys. Lets calm down... hehe.

yes but they are also the only ones who care around here. but that may just be the tx car enthusiasts attitude. either they dont care, or it's hailed as a god. those are the only two opinions i get. the ls1,cobra,supra,etc. guys will say it's a good car, but they dont care since you cant get a hold of it. might change, but that is the basic verdict about skylines around here.
emptiness
Not it becomes clear that you are both talking about how the car will do in the US. If it isn't at dealerships then ofcourse sales of the Vette will destroy it.
If Skylines are going to be sold at dealerships (which I think they are going to be), It won't outsell the vette or get particularly close but I think it would make significant inroads for a Jap performance car in the states.
