dfi blood iron or asus pk5 vanilla?

I've seen very good results with the pk5 of course, but it seems that there are a lot of problems with DOA boards, and it takes a good bit of modding to get hte best out of them (which does not scare me). also some quirks to it.

the blood iron, there are some very good results, but not that much evidence - it does not seem to have been adopted by many for some reason. I've got a good amount of experience with DFI so I know their bios settings pretty well.

Both boards are same $130 price range. CPU will be E6850, on swiftech apogee, with ballistix 2x1gb ddr2 800. looking for high but stable overclocks for a gaming machine

    opinions?

Go for P5k-E. Why? exactly the same OC features as P5k-Deluxe.

wow you guys he asked between the p5k vanilla or the dfi blood iron. not p5k-e or anything else answer the mans question instead of telling him what you want. the blood iron has more bios options than the p5k. but the p5k is more well known board than the dfi. people hit over 600fsb on the blood iron and over 600fsb on the p5k. i would have to say the dfi because of more bios options. but the p5k isnt a bad choice either. there equal all around besides that fact of the bios. go with the one your leaning more towards since they are both good boards. good luck

If theres another alternate that is better than what he ask, why not point him to the right direction?

The DFI is fun if you enjoy tweaking, but the P5K will get you the same or better fsb with a lot less work.

I think it's perfectly okay to suggest things that someone posting a question might not have though about. If I was asking about a chrysler versus a dodge I would be more that pleased if someone said "they both suck, here is something that doesn't".

In this case Bail made a very good point - the PK5-E is the same as the much more expensive board for not much more than the vanilla pk5 or the DFI. It has excellent vrdoop resistance, and more importantly it's very widely used so there is a lot more info in regards to tweaks etc. I'm kind of excited about pulling out the soldering iron too :-)
I'll say this though, if the Asus is DOA, as many seem to have been, I'll get the blood iron. Thanks for the opinions all!

My P5K is a great board and very easy to overclock.

QFT I have recently run the Blood and it is a PITA compared to the P5K for clocking a dual core. HOWEVER once you start pressing a quad forward the Blood IRon show's it's superior PVM.

Depending on whether you like to work for your performance (DFI) or just click and go (Asus) or run a Dualcore (Asus) or a Quad (DFI) you can decide.

p5k vanilla will require vdroop pencil mod for overclocking (5 second mod).

p5k-e's bios voltage damper will actually work and not have severe vdroop if turned on.

both boards i recommend sata optical drives because of the horrible ide placement on the far side of the mobo (need extra long connector).

I have heard good things about the Blood Iron, but like everyone else has said it tends to be a PITA but the results are worth the extra time.
