    Help with "my pot" design

Hello guys, i've been thinking of making a pot for my self.

Now this is the design i got, is pretty much based on Kingpin pot.

Now im not sure if base thickness is good at 9mm or if wall thickness is ok at 6mm.

It is going to be 3" wide and about 7" tall made from copper, please any input is help full.

For the hold down im thinking of making it on the top of the pot pressing down, like a hat.

it will act perfectly, any cu solid pot, 70mm+ wide can make WR.

i like 1.5cm base thickness... temp not swing even without center pole.
with center pole 1cm should do the job.

what about ln2 temp control? i believe center pole helps with that doesnt it?

what do you think of side walls of 6mm? should make them thicker?

So more base thickness for my pot and smaller center pole :P thx

i never played with LN2 before and never made pot with center pole since my lathe not capable doin it. so far i've made 3 pots with 1.5cm base thickness 8mm - 1cm walls and it doing great on dry ice. temp not swing.
my first pot, a 2" with 8mm walls and 1cm base thickness swing on quad.

centerpole can be 20 or 22mm around 50 heigh, steppers can be as thick as you want
I would also suggest to make the internal not linear with the cone, this wil give you more mass and more massive walls wher it cones.

Btw little side note, with that height chances are heigh that u can't get the centerpole done... i suggest you keep it smaller and if needed work with a 2 piece design.

    Good luck

@beardyMan.. i think you didnt understand what i meant, or my explanation was bad anyways the point that i was trying explane was that the center pole would be part of its own.. or was the what you were thinking too, it looked like in that pic that you posted that you meant that the whole container would be solid

drcooling: As for the two designs I think the top one looks really interesting but here's where I see a problem with it. When pouring LN2 unless you can perfectly pour to the center LN2 may hang around the edge. I think it would really be tough to bench with it. If you plane on dice then again the extra ring that around the center would impede the dice from hitting the bottom.

yes but i didn't meant that at all
in my pic the center pole would be 1 separate part of its own. and could be brazed to the center of the container.

    not adviseable..
if you can make it out of 1 piece, then don't hesitate

normally 2 is better then one, mostly with women and such..

    But here that doesn't count

    Thnx

The outer and inner ring is full with only 40 cc of NL2. I do not think that affects a lot.

The heat is transferred to the base, not by where add LN2

Rings increase the contact surface and the low thermal resistance of the tube

    saludos

    Looks exactly like my design

How will you produce the center pole? Is it made out of one piece?
    Best Regards,

Looks good Metro. If you trim the post down a little shorter it will be cheaper/easier to machine. Other than that it looks great.

BTW having that hold down at the top not only makes it easier to insulate and get a good seal. It also will help with how the pot deals with the load and temp swings. Should give a 1-2C improvement as well from my testing.

    Good luck!
