Well I e-mailed Joe awhile ago also. This was his reply:

"Thanks - Form what I understand, the US version is different from the European model; the US distributor had them change to a different compressor. I have not heard of the same problems that you had from US customers."

AFAIK all units use the same LG compressor and U.S. units aren't free from problems, but oh well I wasn't expecting much of a reply anyways. I should have more information on Maxxxpert towards the end of this week when a family friend gets back from his trip to Korea.
