I need recommendations for some sort of ram cooling solution

Alright, after having one Ballistix D9 die on me and the other steadily failing (Something has to be wrong with it. Running at 400mhz and 1.8v with it nearly burning to the touch? Either my board is overvolting which is doubtful or something within the ram is shorting out, no idea honestly) I want to make sure the sticks I get from RMA will NOT burn out on me this time.

I want some high air flow movin sumbeetches. Open to suggestions, folks. Jury rigging, commercial solutions, whatever. I want these suckers kept cool.

corsair sells a ram cooler... 3 small fans in it.. provides some airflow and easy to mount... (ocz has one too)

other than that its pretty much diy if you want to put a fan there... or, you could look for a cpu cooler that "spans" over the ram too to provide some airlfow.

there are quite a few decent RAM coolers out there. Just watch for Mobo compatibility. Some VGA slots will be close enought to the RAM to cause issues with some coolers. You really don't need much though. The RAM slots are a notorious deadspot for airflow. Just getting a little air flowing between the sticks will work wonders.

+1 on Antec Spot Cool. I have 2 in my case, 1 directed at the RAM and the other at the PWM.

I use the OCZ XTC cooler. I can't compain. works well and quiet if it's on a controller. The spot cool migh work better, though.

..A articulated neck mount anywhere fan.. In a PC!? Blasphemy!

Why the hell don't these get more publicity? I plan on getting two myself, not for ram but for other things. Good suggestion there Cantankerous and Walt.

The XTC is what I may buy.

The Spot Cool really are terrific. I was dead set on getting either the Corsair or OCZ ram cooler, but with the ram retention brackets getting to close to the back of newer video cards, on newer boards, that option just isn't feasible anymore. The Spot Cool pushes more air at lower noise than either the Corsair or the OCZ ram cooler. The fact that it can be used for anything in your case is also a bonus. Have a hot NB/SB or PWM? Put one of these over it and watch your temps drop a good 10c. The fact they are 3 speed tunable means you are not set with either too much noise or not enough airflow.

i use the ocz cooler, it works very well, is sturdy aswell.

the spot coolers are also very good, ive had mine for a year and it still blows true. When i first saw it..my thought was "rice" but the sucker works, one of the best case accessory ive bought.

I would consider the OCZ cooler more rice to be honest. Especially with those blasted lights and grille design.

Do they have a compatibility guide for the OCZ cooler? I don't want it to hit my card and all. Mobo is a DS3R incase they don't have a guide and someone has their own experience.

I have the Antec Spot Cool and am VERY pleased with it as well.

I also have an 80 mm fan sitting on my video card's heatsink that is also partially blowing on the ram (you have to see what I mean to understand what I am saying).

The Antec is really nice. I picked one up at Best Buy.

I just put a 120mm Yate Loon that blows directly onto the ram from the 5.25" drive bays. Keep them cool, even under load.
