Anyone notice any physical differences that would bar it from working with a EK R600 block?

[QUOTE=LordEC911;2451605]I would think a better question would be how much where consumers being ripped by the $600 GTX and $800 Ultra...
These are lower binned XT cores, they placed these at the highest market they could compete in, the $250-$300 range. If the Pro could only compete with a 8600GTS I am sure it would be price ~$200...
Ahhhh but Nvidia didn't introduce a "new" card with the same core and dropped the price by over a 100 bucks. But anywho, I've been looking at an ATI card for a while. Nothing beats ATI when it comes to picture quality when watching movies on the computer.

hmmm 2900pro or wait for RV670 ?
very tempting......though my x1900xtx still plays stuff fine ...
150MHz less core, and 50MHz less memory over the 2900xt for $100-150 less sounds a little to good to be true. They must be skimping in certain areas such as voltage regulators / other components like the case with the x1900gt rev1/rev2 vs x1900xt

What do you think the GTS is?
Edit- Actually the GTS is possibly a worse binning than the Pro, since the GTS actually has shader blocks disabled(i.e. maybe defective or just too slow).
The GTS binning would probably be comparable to whatever the HD2900GT is, that is suppose to be out soon.

This is AMD's way go getting rid of extra stock. We all know the R600 is EOL as there high end card, but this way AMD can still make a nice chuck of change by selling XT cores as Pro's. Thats my take. AMD has done it in the past and they will do it again.

Some things from the PClab article that might interest you:
(no time to translate the whole article)
¤ 2900pro has no UVD (but it's the same core, it should be obvious)
¤ They say (unofficially) that the rumor has it there will be limited quantity of 2900pro's and they won't be widely available.
PROS
¤ Full DX10.0 compliance
¤ High performance
¤ Attractive price
¤ Great overclockability
¤ HDMI output (using a passthrough)
¤ Intergrated HD 5.1 sound controller (??)
CONS
¤ Loud cooling solution
¤ Power hungry
Price with tax will be about 900-1000zł (1 zł = 2.67 US $)

Wow this looks like an awesome deal if it can stay at or around $250, but i have a suspicion that its gonna debut at least a little north of that because the performance is so good! Last I checked a 8800GTS 320MB can not be found in canada for less than $300 bucks, and this card has roughly equal performance and better features.
Oh well my x1950 pro is gonna last me at least a year before i cant play the newest games on high settings.

I'm pretty sure it will stay around $250 or lower even as the Sapphire one is already listed at 207 EUR in some shop in Germany and that usually means around 230~$250 USD price which I would expect to be the normal cost perhaps 1-2 weeks after first shop has it in stock. MSRP will prolly be $250 but some shops when availability gets good might even push down the prices to $229 I suspect for the cheapest version/brand. http://geizhals.at/eu/?fs=hd+2900+pro&x=0&y=0&in= .
This will prolly push 8800GTS prices down a bit too, I don't think majorly but perhaps a decrease of ~$30 sounds like a reasonable amount in near future.

If all people would share opinions in an objective manner, the world would be a friendlier place
Does this card also require a 6pin AND 8pin connector to get enough power for overclocking ?
My PSU only has 6 pin connectors ..
Also , the Sapphire HD 2900 pro (both 512mb and 1gb) are cooled with a silent heatpipe . While no other 2900 XT as far as i know had a silent heatpipe solution ?
Does that mean the PRO chips run cooler .
