Will existing chipset waterblocks fit X38 bonetrail?

    Title. Anyone know?

If so, which ones? What is the mounting scheme?

Yeah with the larger IHS deal I figure some changes may be in order, but I would think watercooling manufacturers are prepping up their products for X38 as well.

We still don't know many things about the X38.. for me, the million dollar question is whether there's SLI. No SLI = no buy.

This is the only sign of some glimmer of hope for SLI. Otherwise, its a lost casue, and I heard that the successor to the 680i won't be around until 4Q 2008. That's a nightmare!

    Hey Ian,
I could be wrong but I think Nvidia is preparing a successor to the 680i for a Nov~Dec 2007 timeframe release. It will be similar to the 680i except that it will feature PCI Express 2.0 slots, more USB ports, perhaps no IDE connector and only one PCI slot, a new Northbridge, and more PCIe x4 slots.

Lets hope that it does not run at a standard 70 deg C and suck.

Actually, if you look at the pics of the Bone Trail board, it looks like they use screws on the NB mounting.

Heard something along those lines from one of their industry support guys recently.

Guys, are we talking about SLI or about a X38 BoneTrail WB?

    Jay,

Thanks. That's really good news ! For me, its a matter of having hardware that plain works. The overclocking part and the 3D Mark part is secondary to having a mobo that supports my hardware needs.

Well, since Intel's Skulltrail is going to support SLI, perhaps this is really what the delay with the X38 motherboards is really due to?

The SkullTrail motherboard actually supports NVIDIA's SLI, which is apparently made possible by actually using a pair of NVIDIA MCPs on the motherboard itself. This isn't an SLI licensing deal; this is Intel purchasing NVIDIA MCPs and using them on its motherboard. 2-way SLI is supported today and Intel claims eventual support for up to 4-GPU SLI, depending on whenever NVIDIA releases drivers and product.

I don't think it's too insane. From what I understand, the concept behind the 3 CrossFire setup is to use the first two cards in traditional X-fire and the third card is used to offload the physics onto....and all interconnected, which should be a tad faster than a traditional SLI or X-Fire setup with the PhysX card added in.

    yeah im actually considering it.

Because the benifits of SLI aint worth the stupidity of NVIDIA 680i.

Sorry, but it would have to be extremely desperate to even touch my 680i again. Its sitting in a box waiting for that desperate moment when my P35's fail.

Yeh i have the same opinion, id rather go crossfire then have to use a 680i board for SLI.
