While i don't have a 30d or a 40d, i would recommend waiting for the 5dmk2 which should be released early next year. It will be basically a 40d with a full frame censor, if we are lucky, it will have the 1d auto focusing.

I have just upgraded to the 40D from the 30D..and I can tell you without a doubt the 40D is a BADASS camera....

    noted upgrades:

    bigger LCD screen
    bigger Viewfinder
bigger Grip (Kinda feels like holding a 5D)
Live View (which will help BIG time with macro)
    6.5fps vs 5fps

all in all I loved my 30D ALOT....
however the 40D trumps it in every way....

and best of all its about $1300.00 vs 5dmk2 which will probably come out around $2700.00....

they are also 2 different types of cameras....

grinch, you posted right as i was about to lol... so, bigger lcd and live mode? how the hell did they manage that? i've got a grip on mine and absolutely love it. i'll never go back. live mode would be really great, like you said, for macro! i'm just wondering how it works considering it's an SLR...
