You know, OCZ, just because you go mainstream doesn't mean your products have to be manufactured to clearly inferior standards.
As situman said, why the big 'Z' punched out of the middle of the heatsink? Couldn't you just leave all that material unmolested and find another way to add the 'Z'? I mean, keeping costs down is one thing but shooting yourself in the foot is another.
Like i said, dont make statements like that until you have facts to back it up, we have no idea how well this new heatsink performs, sure the Vindicator is crap, but dont go bashin this new product unless you got facts to backup a lack of performance. What may very well appear to be an "inferior" design, may prove to be a few points better then the standard ACFreezer7 your used to seeing as a mainstream cooler.
And the PC of the wife or grandma usually isnt overclocked so temps usually arent an issue.
So getting a cheap (10 or 15 euro) heatsink from AC is good enough for those and they usually are damn quiet.
that is the treatment every company gets that simply copys the products from other companys or rebadges them.
It may not be nice but this aint the first OCZ CPU cooler thats just a copy.
Like said it may not be nice and you guys keep on promising that there are more and better things to come but we had expected more from OCZ then promises and copys.
edit:
i agree that no comment can yet be made on its cooling performence but like you said this is a Cooler for the wifes computer so its cooling performence doesnt matter that much seeing its a low buget cooler.
The thing that irritates most people here is like said the fact that it is a copy of a cooler that has been on the market for more then a year and that the cooler that it is a copy of is a damn good one for its price and most likely there wont be a big cooling difrence between the AC freezer and this OCZ Cooler.

You know I was going to post this 2 days ago, but I thought that maybe I shouldnt since this thing looks like AC HSF, didnt want OCZ to get hammered anymore then it has been here on XS.
I guess its too late

haha, ninja edit andy!!
Yeah, I realized that.
Only a test of version without the Z cutout and one with the Z cutout would tell if performance is worse/better.

Yes you are right Andy, in reality it is about staying is Business and lesser or globle manufactored products are essential to compete in the market.
WE as Enthusiast are spoiled by OCZ's relentless pursuite in original products and this deviant is just a adjustment we need to soakup.
Thankyou for taking your Company and products personally.it is a long lost dedication we do not see theses days.

If I sound STUPID!! it is because I am.

Ill tell you what, tomorrow im gona re-run my tests on the Vindicator, for OCZ's sake, and im gona give you two comparisons against the Scythe Ninja and OCZ Vindicator, which are basically of identical design.
I want to positively ENSURE that my assumptions about the Vindicator are accurate. ( i was sure before, but ill do it again to be safe)
Actually what im doing is discussing the matter with andy on the results of the Vindicator, im not gona get all crazy with the heatsinks and retesting, because quite frankly, ive already done that 4 times in a row, i dont know if you guys have been reading the air cooling forum but i have a very large and comprehensive air cooling roundup in the works for you guys, and since the results should be completed and posted on all the heatsinks i have in stock by next week sometime, im gona just say, go ahead and wait for that, unless andy wishes otherwise.
Oh come on guys cut some slack... at least they dont spend lots of r&d money to come up with stuff like coolermaster's mid range stuff and they are developing that huge carbon base cooler which im looking forward to.
let me be the first to apologize for our outrageous behavior...i am sorry you were in the cross hairs of some of our newer forum posters.
i do appreciate OCZ being one of the top leaders, if not "the" leader, in performance hardware....i already loved your PSU's but now, you have joined up with PCP&C which is only going to make your line that much stronger...it was a "GREAT" acquisition!
