    AMD's 3GHz K10 to break 30,000 3DMark06 (Inq)

K10: meet (Beverly) Krusher to the 10th degree

    By Theo Valich:

When clocked at 3.0 GHz and equipped with two overclocked HD2900XT cards in CrossFire, Agena FX or single-core Barcelona smashed an index of 30,000 3DMarks 06.
Yes, you’ve read it right - the barrier of 30,000 was passed to, barely, 30.031.

We know that there are different systems floating around, and we have no doubt that leaks will start appearing after this article goes live. Knowing what was the overclock of Kentsfield processor, Intel Yorkfield has quite a big job to do. One thing is clear, though. Intel needs Nehalem, and it needs it badly.

To be clear with you, dear readers, two HD2900XT cards were overclocked to 830MHz for the core and 900MHz for the memory, but ominous Catalyst 7.7 drivers were used.

When running at 2.5GHz, the 3DMark06 score ended at 23.768, so we were thrilled to see such a good score coming from two 512MB cards. This showed the clear potential of this four core processor marchitecture, but the helter skelter ride happened after we overclocked the processor to 3.0GHz.

The particular processor was none other than a single socket Barcelona or Agena FX, call it what you will. The reference motherboard containing RD790 chipset packed two HD 2900XT cards, and the memory installed was Corsair’s Dominator PC2-9136C5D, or the same ones we have been using ever since they came out. There was a Raptor hard drive, and that was about that. OCZ will like the fact that PP&C Quaddie CrossFire PSU was installed in the system.

Windows Me II (Vista) Ultimate was installed as the operating system of choice. For some odd reason, the 32-bit version was installed in a system with 4GB of memory, needless to say the system detected 3.24GB, and benchmarketing commenced.
    Source

(Inq alert) Don't shoot me if it turns out to be wrong!

Finally some good news for AMD

haha awaits the first excuse of intel fanboy

"This statement warrants at least three hatemails from Intel's R&D lads, but all that we will disclose here are results we have in our possession. The pics are gone with my stolen laptop, though."

    wtf?

    sounds good to me
sounds like it actually has enough bandwidth to handle all the power of the GFX cards lets hope with some decent over clockers like kink etc.. will smash the 30k mark

    Yes,

Very good news, if true. I have my doubts though. What did shamino and kinc get with their QC intel setup?

Now move those cards they are using over and surely it will be much higher than that, if its true of course.

After a not so fortunate start of the Games Convention, Kinc and Shamino have returned to their everyday life and started benching again with Mushkin at the Games Convention. Unfortunately Kinc lost his precious Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850, but luckily Shamino had another which worked "quite well" too. Sham's QX6850 reached 5119MHz (3DMark stable) on an ASUS Blitz Extreme. The memories used were Mushkin's new DDR3-1333 memories (we have some more information about these later).

The processor was cooled by Shamino's Dragonpot, which in other terms mean liquid nitrogen. The pair of ASUS Radeon HD 2900 XT, which Kinc and Shamino overclocked to 1175/950MHz, was also cryo-cooled, but with a pair of Mousepot rev4.

This brings Kinc, and Shamino of course, back to the top of the 3DMark 06 Hall of Fame, along with the Radeon HD 2900 XT. The new GPU-pots (rev4) with a thicker base really does wonders for the Radeon HD 2900 XT, and there might even be more coming. The new world record is 27,039 points and it might even get a tweak or two before the Games Convention is over.

I just hope it is true but find it extremely hard to believe...
It would mean that K10@3ghz would score more then 99999(max CPUMark value in 3dMark06 calculator) while a QX6850 @ 5.12ghz scores some 7600.
Edit- Does that CPUMark score scale after 10k? Looking back it doesn't seem like it.

Thanks Deathman 20. 30.000 seems quite high @ 3GHz, compared to 27,000 @ 5.1 GHz. I really hope its not a bunch of BS. AMD needs this, if true.

How about highly improbable, but it is possible.
