Question Q6600 G0 Very Big temp delta across cores?

    Hi guys,

How normal is it to have a big temp difference across cores? I'm wondering if it is indicative of a TIM problem or bad contact on my waterblock (although the temps do seem nice and low!).

At stock clock with Orthos running on all cores I'm getting the following temps:

    core #0 43c
    core #1 38c
    core #2 39c
    core #3 43c

Is a 5 degree delta normal with a quad? (and before you ask yes I've set the thread affinity for my 2nd instance of Orthos so all cores are loaded)

System spec is as follows :

    680i A1
    Q6600 G0
    2x 2gig 8500 Corsair Dominator XMS
    Dtek Fuzion
    2x chipset blocks
Black Ice Stealth 360 (Chosen to fit in case)
    Silverstone FM123 fans
    Silverstone Temjin TJ09

Currently CPU is not overclocked, I'm just testing it is ok before starting.

vcore after droop is 1.20v under load according to speedfan.

Regardless I'm really impressed with the stock temps on this core under load. Seems like a great CPU.

    Thanks.

    Quite normal actually....

Mine was 5C as well, until I lapped both the 120-X and CPU. Now it's about 3C. Mounting can also come into play as well...

Yep Both mine show about a 5 deg difference between cores under load.

Shouldn't the newer Coretemps be higher since you don't have to add 15?

As the long as the TJunction is 100C, the temps are right on.....

Thanks guys that is good to hear. I have a good feeling about this cpu.

I have got all the kit to lap things and to be honest my waterblock has the odd score across its surface from when I was sizing all the piping/dry mounting etc. Thing is, I can't face taking this damned machine apart again. I'm on my 3rd motherboard, 2nd set of ram, 2nd SPP waterblock... the list goes on. I'm pretty happy with the temps anyway so far. This is my first water cooled system and I ahve to say that I seriously underestimated the hassle involved when you've got plumbing everywhere...
