    I'm fully aware that it's not a full active cooler. Call me silly, but I think the cooler is displacing more heat into the water from the alum than most ppl give it credit for.

    I was thinking about a design that was somewhat similar to what HeatKiller does with their GPU blocks. Have the main block cool the core and have a 1mm to 2mm plate attach to the base (like in your design) that has the size and shape to cover everything, with a delrin top to pull everything together.
