Building a Dual CPU - Quadcore system

Hi I would like to build a Dual Quadcore CPU system, is this even possible to build by oneself or I just have to buy an already DELL server?

I just want to have a fastest video editing system using 2 Quadcore CPUs.

my current system is a dual core E6600 with 2 gigs of ram.

I dont know where to even buy a dual cpu motherboard compatible with Q6600
    please help?

    thanks

Try this and a pair of these from NewEgg, if you're American which I shall assume you are.

First off my knowledge is limited on these setups, but...

You won't find one for the q6600. You'll need to look at xeons instead. Something like the xeon 5355s. Basically chips to fit the 771 socket instead of 775.

Motherboards I believe you would need to look at something like supermicro or tyan and you would need special ECC ram.

The one advantage of a setup like this is that you can always buy one chip now and another one later.

Edit: Maybe http://forums.2cpu.com/ would be the best place to look.

as RLM said - dual socket Intel (Xeon) is socket 771.
the RAM u need for these systems is different as well - its FB-DIMM & EXPENSIVE!
    u CANNOT use 'ordinary' Exxx C2D or Q6xxx cpu's...

You also are extremely limited to the HSF's you use as there are few that are 771 compatible.
The stock Intel Xeon HSF's are noisy, or you can choose to use the passive lumps of copper they provide for 1U rack mount server configs.
The CPU looks just like a QX6800 however the mounting points on the motherboard are completely different and therefore require 771 specific HSF's

A good dual Xeon X5355 motherboard is the Intel S5000XVN-SATA, but there again you are limited, no SLI support, but this board and those chips make one helluva nice workstation with enough RAM.

I know because I have all the components to build one except the video card which should be here in a few days.
Be prepared for sticker shock, the CPU's are about $1300.00 each, the mobo is over $500.00 and 8 gigs of RAM is a $700.00 + event or more.
Top that off with a few hard drives and an 8800 GTX and you are looking at an $8000.00 system.

The nice thing is that you can choose an Antec P-190/1200 system case and have the dual power supply set up, the Antec P-190/1200 will fit an E-ATX motherboard!
