Broken pins due to condensation on Asus P5K ?

Was trying to get all first spots in all 3Dmark with Single 7300GT when I got an error.
Computer froze after that and I tried to reboot the Pc.
Nothing worked, so I let the thing cool down/heat up and dismounted the Prometeia.
I noticed the pins in the socker are not in line anymore.
3 pins have broken off, a dozen others where bent.

    How is this possible ?

You say that some or bend others are broken, so no offence but I think it has to do with you mounting the cpu. That seems the only logic reason to me. Did you do a cpu change?

    Nope, not at that time.
CPU worked fine, just got first spot in 3D05 with it, system was up and running for about one full hour.

well to my knowledge condensation should not cause pins to bend/come off

Highly agree. That just doesn't sound logical IMHO.

I had something "similar" with condensation...

IIRC they were not bent but completely fried

edit : i'll always use Dielectric grease now...

That's how it looked Supertim0r, same thing, only here it's alot worse
I did put alot of pressure on the socket, but that can't be it.

Some are like bent, but if you try to lift it, it just comes loose.
There must be a reason why ?
Never had this before with Socket A, PIV and S754/939....

Hmm, previously socket pins were stiff, they went into the socket where they were clamped by the socket.

On these new Intels, the pins are actually little springs. Maybe the extreme cold and the added moisture don't agree with the metal the pins are made out of.

Are we the only ones that had these problems ?

I thought I had it well insulated, but I guess not.

in my case, it's probably the ice that caused this

    I was only at 1.7-1.75v 4.7-4.8ghz (-40/-50c)

my insulation was really good but it frosted, corrosion and when it died, the socket and the cpu was completely stuck in the ice

lol really.. i hope that you used dielectric grease in the cpu socket too

I stopped filling the socket with dialectric grease. It was just too darn hard to clean afterwards. Now I just rub the bottom of the cpu with a thin layer of it and a little on the little square foam that goes in the center of the socket and that's it. So far this method has worked fine on a few different boards without any trouble at all, but I do tend to move to new boards quite often for other reasons.

That does sound like something else was wrong either with your evap head, mount, or insulation, or possile leak of some sort. It really shouldn't ice up like that. I've had the evap tube ice up in spots where something was pressing against it and kinking it a little. With proper insulation, you shouldn't get ice clumps anywhere regardless of whether you fill the socket with grease or not.

I used grease in the socket last time and had absolutely no problems

I had this problem with my cascade and a p5b a while ago but not happened since.... I just make sure I use a lot of dialetic grease
Oh a word of warning DO NOT leave dialetic grease and a cpu in the socket of an unused system as it eats away at the pins, this happened to me when I changed over from 939 to 775 I left my trusty fx57 in the socket of my dfi when I went to sell it a month or two later I had pin rot and lost about 5 or 6 pins

Hmm, so this grease is dangerous also....
What are the pins made off ?
Never heard that metal was eaten away from any kind of grease, moisture,....
