I know that this has been posted elsewhere, but where do I measure vcore with my DMM?

I do a quick pencil VDroop mod and works like a charm, more results here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=155661

I love you guys........ Penciled the resistor from 100k to 10k and I am back at 3.6 solid. I think I may have to redo my ninja, I lifted it a bit while doing the mod and my temps went up a bit.

Wow, wonderful mod. I will try it tonight once I back home.
Btw, do I need to fix the mod by anything like sticky tape? Do I need to redo the mod again after used for a period of time?

omg... I just did the mod. It is FRIGGING AWESOME..

Anyway to give mad props to the author? good god it's awesome.

Here are some screen caps, not really pushing the board. Just wanted to see the mod in action...

Before the mod, idle cpu (note the BIOS set vcore is 1.3625v, actual is 1.33v)
    http://img124.imageshack.us/my.php?image=idlebefore.jpg

Before the mod, load cpu (note the BIOS set vcore is 1.3625v, actual is 1.29v)
    http://img124.imageshack.us/my.php?image=loadbefore.jpg

After the mod, idle cpu (note the BIOS set vcore is 1.3625v, actual is 1.34v)
    http://img124.imageshack.us/my.php?image=idleafter.jpg

After the mod, load cpu (note the BIOS set vcore is 1.3625v, actual is 1.36v)

When i used to pencil things, i would apply a small piece of tape over the area just to prevent rubbing off or such.
I measure vcore from the underside of the mobo, from the closest leg to the socket of one of the coils.
I'm actually measuring significantly higher vcores than reported by BIOS

nicely done.... now i wonder if evga will consider another revision of the board.... Im sure they would want to redo some of the other things in this board anyways but cant justify the revision need..

Many thanks for this simple mod! Vdrop is now minimal, and Vdroop is gone completely.

OK, given this mod a try this morning. Was getting terrible vdroop.

    Anyhow its much better now.

set to 1.35v in bios = 1.33v reported in bios - 1.34v reported in windows idle - 1.34v in windows load.

The fact there is no difference between load and idle is fantastic. BTW - 1 thing, no matter how much i shade the resistor i cant seem to get it to go higher than 1.33v bios (1.34v windows) vs. a setting of 1.35v. i.e. it is still not exactly what i set it too. Ive been using HB 2 1/2 pencil (shop didnt have no. 2's in stock) do u recon this is y, or does it really not make that much difference?

good mod, did the pencil over the one resistor and it worked awesome.

    couple questions though,

    1. In the pics you say 100kohm VR and 50kohm VR. Did you actually solder those VR's onto the board and are able to adjust them now?

    2. What does the 50Kohm between the other resistor and ground achieve?

Mine is working good right now with just the pencil but I would solder on VR's for better precision if this is what you did, or am I totally misunderstanding what you mean in the pics?

Also now that I have this set up for about 1.40V will I have to adjust the amount of pencil lead over the resistor if I want to give my processor more or less volts?

    TIA for any replies

Ok, I just noticed something that needs to be addressed asap.

Go back to the first page of this thread and look at T M's picture and then look at Dino22's pic. They are showing the mod done to different resistors. T M is showing it on the lower of the two while Dino22 is showing it on the upper of the two.

I did mine like T M with a pencil and it worked.

Is there any problems with this or does it work on either resistor?

    I am confused now!!!

    Ya' know......

After looking at the comparison pics between the 680i and the 680i LY versions of the EVGA board - I think that they are identical and that it will work for both boards.

    Hmmm......

I may have to check into this.

What would happen if u did it to both at the same time? Would it overvolt?

Doing both at the same time strikes me as being the same as doing one twice as much.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're increasing resistance by twice as much.

......and why would you want to do both anyways??

i just did the pencil mod on the resistor marked with red x's and these are the results:

    Before: 1.432 idle | 1.408 load | 1.475 bios
    After: 1.448 idle | 1.440 load | 1.475 bios
