Intel can push Wolfdale to 4GHz to fight +3GHz B2 Phenom X2

According to THX, told from an Intel engineer from China.
    45nm allowed them.

Translated via google, so don't expect much...

...'It's important to stand out that the specifications had been not yet finished, and can vary in case that the B2 revision of the K10 nucleus surprises, breaking the barrier of 3GHz as some sites had mentioned. One corresponds of China, engineer of the Intel, in it affirmed them that in case that this happens, modern lithography process 45nm High-K of the Intel will allow that dual-Core Wolfdale reaches the barrier of 4GHz of clock and quad-Core Yorkfield has the high frequency 3.66GHz, to everything this only with a simple increase of voltage.'...

With a slight increase of voltage? Sounds to me like intel is ready to start selling "Factory overclocked" chips.

Higher FSB and More Vcore with current motherboards requiring a bios flash to support (bios can easily raise the default voltage) along with an (pulling out of my ass) upcoming chipset to support 1600 FSB. Im willing to bet that these chips will also be binned more agressively to move more E6600 equivilant chips as opposed to E6300 equiv. $$$ for the same stuff we will already have at the time. I doubt we will see 4.6ghz air cooling overclocks with a slight bump in voltage (on top of the factory bump).

Uhh.. this would be a extreme edition part if they hit 4GHz with Wolfdale. I imagine it'd be easily possible with the right binning but voltages wouldn't be stock, guessing 1.45 or so as we have seen some godlike Conroes already that can do 4GHz no sweat.

Just cuz they can overclock it does not mean they will release it at 4.0ghz.

AFAIK Intel China isn't working on Penryn, neither on the P1266 process nor on the architecture.

I don't think Intel will go back to releasing dual-core extreme editions.

of course they can hit 4ghz and 3.66ghz, they can even do that on 65nm, but at what watts?

yeah it did... intel came up with a damn confusing performance rating and amd copied it, so now people go back to what they know and they can compare even if they have no clue about cpus, mhz and cache size, more is better.

its really stupid since amd and intel should try to raise attention on cores and efficiency, instead they push people back to the mhz bs... :/

So they believe they need a 4ghz Penryn to beat a 3ghz k10. Interesting
Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start
for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was cancer of the heart

They're just showing the pottencial of a 45nm core, and that they could beat K10 even in the most difficult situations.

    My oppinion.
    I believe 3.33GHz York is more than enough for a 2.8GHz~3.0GHz Agena-FX.
