Asustek may outsource own-brand motherboards to Foxconn, says paper

EDN, July 26; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Thursday 26 July 2007]

Asustek Computer is planning to adjust its own-brand product outsourcing strategy after it completes the spin-off of its own-brand and contract manufacturing divisions on January 1, 2008, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily New (EDN) report, which cited the company. Quanta may become the first OEM for Asustek's own-brand notebook, while Asustek is also considering outsourcing own-brand motherboards to Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), noted the paper.

Oh great, I can see it now. Revisions of each board, a Foxconn rev. and an ASUS rev, and yet another thing to pray to the OC gods for. "Oh man, I'm hope I get Rev. A (ASUS), the Rev. F's (Foxconn's) SUCK!"

    Ugh.

I guess this means buy X38 before 2007 is out. Hopefully intel will buy SLI and get their OC specs together for the next chipset shift.

ASUS will probably attempt to maximize profits and just use a relabeled foxconn board

The price of reliability is the pursuit of the utmost simplicity. It is a price which the very rich find most hard to pay.
