    Exclamation $1299 for P5K3 Premium/WiFi-AP w/onboard memory??

At this stage we believe the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) is set at $1299 US (Initially believe to be $499) giving the P5K3 Premium yet another claim to fame. This makes the P5K3 Premium the most expensive desktop motherboard to ever be released, a title previously held by the ASUS Striker Extreme motherboard which began life at $400 US.

    Oh dear god.

Nobody was going to get one in the first place, and whoever was, definitely won't now.

I really don't think the 2 gb limit is the biggest problem any more.

for that price I would AT LEAST expect to see 4gigs of highest rated DDR3 and the whole mobo Thermalrighted (yes thats a verb now)

there will be a market for this thing, but I don't see a place for it in a serious OC community. this thing is just toys and bling, but no real business.

Oh no it ain't, they figure that if you're gonna buy soldered on memory, you're atleast twice as stupid as their regular customers alas you should pay atleast twice as much.
    That's just craptastic...

and the best part? How many users are going to get ONE dead DDR3 IC? I mean FFS. Asus is a purveyor of first, a mobo manufacturer second. They never have - and NEVER should be a purveyor of memory.

EDIT: WORSE! Yet http://www.legionhardware.com/pic.ph...m/Image_28.jpg HALF ThE ING RAM IS LEFT UNCOOLED! in an area that NEVER gets airflow. Is ASUS begging for RMAs of their $1300 joke?

    Double edit:

http://www.legionhardware.com/pic.ph...m/Image_32.jpg My bad. It has a small passive sink. That'll end well.

They forgot about the EVGA 680i SLI Black Pearl that retails at about $700 .

Asustek may outsource own-brand motherboards to Foxconn, says paper

    http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20070726PB209.html

Asustek Computer is planning to adjust its own-brand product outsourcing strategy after it completes the spin-off of its own-brand and contract manufacturing divisions on January 1, 2008, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily New (EDN) report, which cited the company. Quanta may become the first OEM for Asustek's own-brand notebook, while Asustek is also considering outsourcing own-brand motherboards to Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), noted the paper.

Due to the large volumes in the motherboard business, Asustek normally outsources 20-30% of motherboard production during the peak season, said the paper. The possible outsourcing of motherboard production to Foxconn, therefore, should not immediately hurt the performance of Asustek's spin-off Pegatron Technology, added the paper.
