Thanks a ton for this info Vapor. I know it may not have a lot to do with results per say, but do you have any pics of these heatsinks installed in your system? I am curious to see clearance issues around heatpiped board as well as clearance over dimm sockets etc.

The HSF itself should have little clearance issues....but mounting system might hit stuff like that though. I'll try to take pics tonight.

Backside cooler on the U-120eX is possible. Just have to use the IFX-14's backplate. However, I REALLLLLY think most of the 4C improvement is from the modded mount, not from the backside cooler. Taking the fan off of that raised temps .5C to 1C, if that. It never felt warm. I think the thermal pad might have something to do with it (thick, doesn't look like a good TIM).

Could you take pics of your modded mount then?

I ordered a IFX-14 as well yesterday, hope I shouldn't get worried and feel bad that I didnt take the 120 eXtreme instead

I too just recieved my IFX today and am dissapointed by it. On my quad my 120extreme is beating IFX by 7-10c, loaded and idle. And that is with a San Ace fan in the middle of the cooler and two S-flex SFF21F's on each side. My 120 extreme only has the two S-Flex's on it. Mine did not come bent in like vapor's and had a piece of foam between the two sets of fins. But note that because of my case I cannot use the backside cooler and the IFX has to be aimed vertically because the mounting hardware interferes with the mosfet cooler on my 680i board.

But it seems that the mounting hardware is interchangable. Later I will try using the IFX mounting hardware on my 120 extreme and see what happens.

I'll get to some testing soon. I just got my IP35 pro, so I'm still working on a decent overclock to generate heat.

But hey, how about some pics to crack some smiles!

    3 YL 140mms anyone?

    How about a Delta-rama!?!

Ok, I got some wierd results. I used the IFX mounting system on my Ultra120 Extreme and my temps are about the same as my IFX's temps. Maybe its just the mounting in the IFX that makes it such a poor performer. Now off to try the IFX with the Ultra 120 Extreme's mounting bracket. I am also pretty sure that the LGA775 bolt through kit will work on the IFX-14, but I do not own one so I can't test that.

BTW I use the penny mod on the 120 Extreme's mounting system and added some tape to the IFX's mounting system.

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply, but that only leads me to another question.

I thought the preferred method was to use the 120mm fans with the Ultra 120 sized heatsinks.
The 120mm version of the Sharkoon only spins at 1,000 rpms.
The Sharkoon 2000 is the 80mm version that spins at 2000 rpms. (Obviously)

Since it is smaller, the 80mm is listed at 22.7CFM....where the 120mm pushes 38.1CFM, per their individual specs.

I'd lose that one in the center as it's not going to do anything at all surly with them 2 monster blowing and sucking!

I think if it was cover over as well, canopie, boxed in it would be even more powerfull!

I too thought what thats not many heatpipes. More little ones would of been better!

The mounting problems with recent Thermalrights is annoying !

But keep us updated with the Thermalright Ultra-120X's mount on the IFX..

Infortunately the mounting screws for the Ultra 120 Extreme hit the IFX's heatpipes, so unless u get shorter screws the IFX wont mount using the 120 Extreme's mounting hardware.

get shorter screws & use the ifx's backplate so you can also use the motherboard heatsink thing...

    please?

There are both 1000RPM and 2000RPM variants of the 120mm fan, I have both here.

jz9110....interesting that yours is performing identically to mine but didn't have the bent heatpipes. Things are not looking good for the IFX-14.

Navig...I'll be interested to see your Delta-rama testing, but I still don't think it will result in an advantage over the Ultra-120 eX

Whoops vapor, didn't mean to thread crap on your thread--I thought this was the other IFX14 thread.

The delta-rama is really probably just a joke. I suppose if I find adding bigger fans keeps on scaling up in performance, I might make it there, but I doubt it.

My review is going to be a bit in time coming. I just switched to the IP35 pro today also, so I'm working up my overclock to generate some heat. In case anyone is interested, the IFX14 fits fine in either 90 degree configuration. I'm getting about the same load temps with my lapped Ultra + Delta medium flow vs my IFX14 with a 14cm Yate Loon.

I think the whole problem w/ the IFX14 is the mounting hardware. Even when I tighten the 2 little mounting brackets as hard as I can, I can still move them quite easily. I don't know how thermalright came up with such a stupid mounting solution. Plus, my base is like the Grand Canyon. I'll lap it tomorrow.

I believe that w/ some pressure this cooler will shine.
