....Dont tell me that lol....I want at LEAST 3.4ghz on that proc for her or Ill be ....dissapointed....

Ill have it by thursday 10/16 and be putting the machine together saturday afternoon....I dont get 3.4 stable with decent voltages Ill consider an RMA....but I really want her at 3.6....

Maybe bad batches have been coming out?

    OH! Who here laps?
Im considering it on this proccessor.

Every single CPU I touch. Sometimes I can get slightly higher clocks, other times it lowers temps. I've never lapped a chip then regretted it. I've also never lapped a chip that was perfectly flat either.

Anything through L801-L807 is not worth risking... L808 and L810 seem to be good... no word on anything past that...

For the L7s, L737B is da best... but generally you won't run into something TOO horrible with the L7s though there is always a chance.

I've got an L737B in the wife's PC. Weak core, one gets to 3.6 prime stable but not a notch over regardless of volts. The other cores prime over 3.8 though, such a waste.

Ok....got my little chip in the mail FINALLY!
    L811A797 series.....

Anyone with knowledge of how this one performs?

    EDIT:
.....damn....so nobody is having luck with this series of chips? I wont officially know where Im starting from until I put the build together this weekend....was looking forward to getting her to at LEAST 3.4ghz....3.6ghz tops...
Im not about to start buying a bunch of procs or RMAing them....Id prefer to avoid that....
Can I expect less than 3.4ghz on the EVGA 750i FTW board w/ Zalman 9700NT cooler? If I take it there.....am I looking at having 24/7 stability or .....am I going to have to consider 3.2ghz?

    I know the real difference between 3.2 and 3.4 isnt much....but 3.2-3.6....hmmmm....

    Someone...gimme some hope here lol

I suppose I could make do until the i7 chips come out...then the Q9x50 series will become the new Q6600....and Ive had lovely success with my Q9550!

Im overreacting.....Ill wait and see and hope someone has some good advice on this one....data to be posted this weekend....checking boards till then

well even the crappy q6600's maxed out about 3.5 so 3.4 sound like it could be do able

This was all typed on my cellphone.....forgive me lol

got it up and running....modding the case and such took up alot of time but definitely looks worth it heh!
    VID of 1.325.....couldve been worse.....
clocked to 3.1ghz ran prime 8 hours no issues and temps dont seem to go above 52-55c. accross all 4 cores (idles at 32-36c)......at work now....dont recall voltages but i believe this is running ram(went with 4gigs of kingston hyperx 1066) @ 1043 w/ 6 7 7 20 timings and 2v.....i do know all voltages in bios are "in the green" though at the upper end of that range.
Im going to try 3.4ghz tonite....advice? again this is on an EVGA 750i FTW board and using a zalman 9700nt cooler(w/AC5 of course) and 4gigs of kingston hyper X 1066 ram

Wife wants the computer done and playable asap lol....tired of me monkeying with it.....

    Wives...

thats why I put together another quad @ 3.2 with 4GB DDR2, 3 x 400GB drives and HD3850. I use it as my server and for downloads, etc 24/7 but I dont mess with it anymore. My gaming PC is the one in my sig. Usually torn up at least once a month to change parts, etc.

Have a second hand G0 here from [XC] 4X4N and I couldn't even tell you the week on it, but it seems to do okay. I have been running for a while at 4.05 ghz 24/7 but it isn't all that stable. It just needs tweaking though. I am right now working my way up to that again testing stability at every 2-3 on the fsb. Right now OCCT stable at 3.897ghz (9X433) at 1.408 Volts maxing out at about 60C under load. Max at 1.380V was 3.852ghz (9X428). Hoping to make it up to 4 with less than 1.5. It is critical to keep these guys under 70C or so though to get a good clock. I think that is the point of lower stability even with greater voltages. Finding the highest possible clock is simply finding the highest voltage to keep below that edge and then the highest clock achievable with that voltage. Just my opinion though from a couple q6600s i've messed with.

Just picked up a used one here on XS - Q6600 L723A963. I didn't play with voltages just popped it in and ran prime @ 1.38v then bumped to 3654 at the same volts. This chip runs really cool. Probably one of the earlier G0s.

Glad to see this thread still going. I just put together a new rig with the Q6600. My cpu isn't a golden chip that can 3.6-3.8 on very low volts, but it does seem to scale with voltage. Here's my highest FSB so far on voltage that can be run 24/7:

Got it stable with 1.4875 Vcore BIOS. The balance of the voltage aren't bad and can be run 24/7. I have been also able to hit 424x9. However that one needs some more work. P-95 ran 12 hours on 3 cores, but failed after 9 hours on core #2. I need to get back to work on that one.

I have also been trying for the holy grail of 4G. I can boot to it, run 3DMark 2001, pass WPrime 1024 run and play some COD4 single player. But the minute I try P-95 or ITB, it reboots. The voltages are really starting to get toasty as well! I need about 1.63V to boot into windows.

I have been posting my escapades here because I didn't realize this thread was still alive.

    I have a few questions:

    - what is max VTT for this cpu. Intel states no higher than 1.45 for a 45nm. What about the 65nm?

    - how much is too much PLL voltage?

    Thanks.

65nm are safe to about 1.6v. I wouldnt push more than 1.55v. Either way the aluminum gates in the 45nm cannot take more than 1.45v....

    I keep PLL stock.

Damn, I seriously need to lap my TRUE.

I want to give my Q6600 a last run for 4Ghz before I move to i7...

I'm just really not confident to do it myself =P

    @Khalmyr

It's going to take some volts. I got up to 1.63 V, but I kept my VTT about 1.425V and kept PLL at 1.5V. I'll try again raising VTT & PLL, but I'm not optimistic that it will be P-95 stable. It's a real kicker. WPrime stable, seemed 3D stable, but no go on the other 2 tests. It's a nice trick booting to 4 GHz, but it's not liveable with my current Q6600.
