Air Cooled with Thermalright Ultra 120. Room temp 36C. Core temps stay around 69C for all cores. Realtemp shows 59C for all cores.

Wasn't able to get past 2800MHz on my freakin Asus Striker Extreme I guess quad cores like intel chipsets more than any Nvidia.

Ok, I need some help!I have jumped from GB 965P-DS3 directly to ASUS P5E@Rampage formula (X38).I have managed to overclock my new Q6600 L807A754 VID 1.315v to 9 x 405 stable, using all settings on auto, except this:CPU voltage-1.45, Loadline Calibration-Enabled, DRAM Static read control-disabled, Dram voltage-2v.I do not know FSB Termination voltage, PLL and the other new settings on X38.I am trying to reach 3,7 GHz stable on TRUE 120+ 2 X SSflex, and I would be very grateful if anyone gives me suggested bios settings...

you're going to kill your cpu... 93C, 1.72V on air?!?!?

dude! back that oc down unless you're just trying to kill that cpu. personally, i wouldn't run over 65C or 1.5v for more than a few hours.

I feel for you man... I also got a bad chip... Mines a L733B but it also came in one of the new blue boxes... hope its not a repack...
Mine needs 1.504v to do 3.6GHz, and to get that I had to pencil mod this board....

Got a Q6600 which goes 3600Mhz on a Striker II Extreme, however it`s more tricky to overclock on a NVidia board. For example on a P35 i`m good to go with only 1.324V, on the NForce one i need to give him around 1.42 (load). It would be interesting to know about other user`s VTT/PLL e.g settings on a 790i.

Man, It refuses to go to even 3,55 on air less than 1,65v...Loser777, thanks for supporting me, and I thought this was a good chip, since it reaches 3800 on air...The thing is that I participate in an Annual overclocking championship, where the % overclock makes a difference, and all performance tests except SuperPi are multithreaded...And I need a quad core for encoding with Canopus Procoder 3 (kickass ) and Cinema Craft Encoder...Do I need a pencil mod for P5E?And if the chip is bad, should I change it, If I have that opportunity?

CoreTemp should show you the right CPU Vid for example, mine has 1.2375V

Yep thats right, it depends on the batch your CPU is from. Intel says the vidrange is between 0.85V - 1.5V (however i never say a 0.85V one hehe) :

    http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SLACR

Personally i would`t give my Q6600 more than 1.45V (load) for 24/7 usage. Of course it always depends on the cooling solution you use, here i would say not more than 65C (full load).

The full range is between 1.2000v and 1.3250v. If you see anything below 1.200v that's because the EIST/C1E features are enabled. CoreTemp ignores these features and always reports the correct VID.

Someone at Anandtech made a poll of Q6600 VIDs and came up with this histogram. The original discussion thread is here. Note that the poll has stopped collecting data since 9/23/2007.

May go an buy another Q6600 for my HTPC. Is there any special batches I should look for? Or is the old SLACR still the best one?..

    Woot!

Yesterday I put the new stuff together and the Q6600 went to 3.6 Ghz on 1.425 in the bios just like that. I didn't do any extensive testing but the idle temp in realtemp is about 45C and the full load on all 4 cores it is 65C. This is exactly what I hoped for. I will fine tune and post some SS and all that other good stuff later.

Recent talks show that L807A/L808A are the batches to go after. Other L80x batches seem to behave like the old B3's.

LOL...Low Vcore - Low Watts and nice OC.

I hope not crash again after 3.5 hours of prime.
I'll see in the morning if was stable.
BTW this is my New Q6600 with same stepping.
    The old one was sold.

    Not neccessary

My L804 has a VID of 1.2875 (Which OC way better than L75x that has 1.3250) and I run it stable at 3.4 (see sig)

It runs @3.6 with vcore set to 1.45 in BIOS and 1.408 in CPU-Z but temps are well over 70s because of crappy Intel Stock HSF

Will put it @ 3.6 when OCZ Vendetta 2 arrives

    @ minaelromany:

I've gone thru an L804A exactly like yours and it too requires 1.425 vCore in bios (1.360v actual, vdroop enabled) for complete stableness. Air-cooled and it needs 1.525+v in bios for a stable 3.6GHz (~75C loaded with Zalman CNPS9700), and gets really tough to push over 3.7 stable. Considering this VID is already one of the very few better ones with L804, unfortunately, that's still not up to the XS standard hence my conclusion. If you've been following the batches in the last two months, you'd know people have got much higher successful rates with the steppings I mentioned above. Good luck with your new CPU cooler and let us know how it performs.
