    Cool >> Micron DDR3 / Corsair @ DDR3-1960 CL7-6-5 >> very fast SPi32M runs, 13k Everest <<

    Hey,

After some consideration, I decided that since we have already seen and proved that Micron 1Gbit parts will do DDR3-2000+ at CL10 or CL9 with better modules, it was time for some fast & tight action. Let me then introduce what DDR3 is capable of in terms of high frequencies at tight latencies, with some good help of good 'ol voltage

What I have here is a 2x1GB kit of DDR3 Micron-based modules, that happens to be coming from Corsair - yeah, no surprise here this time, right? For those unaware, I work in Corsair's lab, and deal with all kinds of memory/motherboard related testing, validations, overclocking, etc.

Anyway, fasten your seatbelts because 13k Everest Bandwith is coming real fast. How about we warm up with 2000+ at "slack" timings, and easier 4GHz CPU, shall we? Something worth noting is, that all overclocking was done solely from BIOS and FELIX's latest Memset was used only for those interested what memory settings/timings were used,

    - Asus P5K3 Deluxe, 0504 BIOS
    - Core 2 Duo E6850, 1333FSB
    - Corsair DDR3 modules
    - Corsair HX520 PSU
    - eVGA 8800GTS

    DDR3-2040 8-8-8-18 @ 2.30v, E6850 @ 510x8=4080MHz --- CPU-Z Valid @ 8-8-8 --- CPU-Z Valid @ 8-7-7

Now, let's do that again, but below both 4GHz on CPU and 2GHz on memory

    DDR3-1960 7-6-5-15 @ 2.30v, E6850 @ 490x8=3920MHz

    Click for larger version

Next up, rather fast 32M run, isn't it?

    DDR3-1940 7-6-5-15 @ 2.30v, E6850 @ 485x8=3880MHz

Couple of Sandra XI Professional benchmarks - Buffered Memory Bandwith and Random Latency tests...

    ... and Unbuffered Memory Bandwidth

    DDR3-1940 7-6-5-15 @ 2.30v, E6850 @ 485x8=3880MHz

Those would make for good and I think first DDR3 entries for coop's "32m Low Clock Challenge" contest

... one for 11:xx category - I was so close to do it below 3.90GHz, but memory would just stop at above DDR3-1940. So I had to step down a bit. Still, a very fast run, right?

    DDR3-1660 7-6-5-15 @ 2.00v, E6850 @ 498x8=3884MHz

... and one for 12:xx as well. This would make the best result so far, If DDR3 results are to be accepted in that contest.

    DDR3-1700 7-6-5-15 @ 2.00v, E6850 @ 510x7=3570MHz

While I was at it, I run a quick ORTHOS test at above settings as well.

    DDR3-1703 7-6-5-15 @ 2.00v, E6850 @ 511x7=3577MHz

So, there you have it guys! There is some even better stuff coming along on DDR3 front as you can see. Let me just point out, that this is in no way presentation of what all Micron DDR3 based modules will do, but just a sample of possibilities out there, for those if you curious to see what happens when more than default 1.5v is applied. But let me say, that 2.3v that I was pushing through these modules DOES NOT seem safe for extended periods of time.

Thanks for clicking through and see you next time If you have any questions or requests, let me know and I will try come up with something...
