Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 for less than £180 in UK

Just to put all the UK people out of there misery about high prices blah blah blah.

    I think this is resonable.

Don't mean to be an a$$ but did you know a lot of stores lower the prices like that when they don't have items in stock? Then as soon as they are in stock again the price shoots back up.

Has anyone actually tried placing an order?

Its first released on july 22 (Or abit before). And the price is 266$ or 133£. So the price is actually alittle high.

I know UK retailers have to cover their overheads etc, but that represents a £50 markup from the Intel quoted price of $266.00. Now I bet that when this chip appears on US websites like Newegg etc, the final price will be very close to what Intel recommends $266. If this is true I will be asking a friend to buy one and send it on to me from the US.

It will replace the X68, which is.... >>>£180. I really cant see this costing only £180 in-stock, and definately not until after the price cuts. This IS the top-end dual-core chip.

Topend dualcores means nothing when you can get a 2.4Ghz quadcore for 266$ too. Dualcores will be something like what the 4000 series is today.

Theres a higher FSB and speed to take into account for the 6850, and also the fact that $266 is still the bulk buy price for the Q6600.

Time will tell, but i`m not holding my breath

Its bulk for both, and price tends to end under bulk.

It depends. For most current things the E6850 would be better. For the future the Q6600 would be better.

However any render/encoding and the Q6600 is already better. And maybe supreme commander and a few others.

Roughly translated you pay 266$ for either 6Ghz of Core 2 or 9.6Ghz depending on the dualcore or quadcore.

Just curious, why dual quad, and not just quad? Along with the ECC issue.

Barcelona dont support HTT3. Only the Budapest singlesocket version. And the singlesocket got higher memory speed too.
