The question though here is simply if we can trust OCZ to deliver a product that can cool QC's down to a sub ambient temperature, without putting a $500 pricescard on it. And I doubt, it will AND perform wonderfully AND cost only in the $300-$400 range.
But I sure find it wonderfull that they bring this kind of cooling to the masses and that they might actually make it affordable!

you think that phase change cant bring quad cores down to sub ambient?

You can run a quad core below -30c on a sinlge-stage that is properly tuned and nicely spec'd.

That is the $64000 question... er statement. What gas will it be and how will it be tuned? If it can't handle Oc'd quads then their target audience is most likely not "us". It's probably for the same group that buys XPS's for their 24/7 L33T systems. I don't blame them though if that is the case. There are A LOT of those types.

And much more powerful then a 1/6 hp reciprocating (most likely 3cc or less) compressor.

Let's just say that when using an air cooled heatsink, you're having an ambient temperatured surface (at least, the heatsink is trying to cool it to that!) on the bottom of the surface.
Then the Cyro-Z ($300) tries to do the same wit probably not less than -40C.
Now the aircooler trying to cool a 1.5v QC at 3.6GHz will certainly fail all stability tests, because temps will go more than 60C over ambient! If you do that on the Cyro-Z, you will also have about 20C, making it around ambient aswell.
So for heavy overclocking, it won't make the QC freeze and I think I'm still thinking quite optimisticly now...
so don't just start laughing at me

Josty, phase isn't like a heatsink in that you add more heat and the temperature just goes up. Phase has a cut off point and is designed for a specific load. You hit a point where all of a sudden, your overloading hte unit, and the temperatures will skyrocket.

Ow oke, thanks for explaining that for me! But still I find it doubtfull that a $300 unit can keep a overclocked QC frozen...

i have doubts too, but its best to hold back till its released and tested. but how will they manage repairing broken phase units? overall, a risky maneuver by OCZ, but again, it holds hope.

I wish they would just release this damn thing. I don't even care if its any good.

Every couple months the words ocz and phase change come together in the news section and all hell breaks loose on xs.

Its like when you were 11 and one of your friends brought a playboy magazine to school.

Lets all just chill and stop getting so excited by fake reviews and phony inq rumors.

Is it going to be a true competitor to the asetek vapochill(not in performance but in value) or are we just talking about something slightly better than a coolit freezone. No one here knows so stop throwing out temps and potential prices cause you know nothing.

The delay is due to the gas mix, regasing and shipping problems.

Considering the amount of gunk that you have to read through to get any kind of useful information, I dont think it would hurt to give a brief summary or link to the relevant information, that would take about as long as the quote and the smartass comment. Must be a full moon.

In a nutshell: Tony and I are not making any more speculations or approximations, when we have info the unit is in the hands of reviewers and retailers, you get more info. There is not date for anything right now.
