    Concave IHS on e6400 :(

Well hey, my temps have always been pretty high (80 +/-), so i figured the chip was lying, or something to that effect. So i'm building my new M-ATX rig today (Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R Rocks, btw - 400FSB easy), and as i take a razorblade to the IHS to check it out of curiosity... bam, there's the problem. Light in the middle of the damn tunnel.

Any tips or tricks for flattening this little guy? I've got plans to take it on a date with some 400-600-800-1000-2000 (or 400, 1000, 2000 - depends what i've got around) tomorrow... so things to wake up to before the project are handy. Thanks guys

For those curious on the rest of the build, it's

    e6400 @ 3200 - 1.55v
TR Ultra 120 Extreme with one Yate Clone or another, pulling air thru NB HS
    2x 1GB Buffalo Firestix at 1000, 5-5-5-15 2.2v (needs tweaking!),
8800GTS (24/7 clocks TBA), Gigabyte GA-33M-DS2R (HR05 for NB, Stock for SB - stays cool anyway)
Modified to hell and back ultra microfly (gotta rip out the HDD support bar, hack 2x120 holes in that side, make HDD cages. Whee.
Enermax Liberty 500 with yet ANOTHER rendition of cabling

Sand it against a piece of glass like he said, a CLEANED counter top (what I used), rub in circle for 400 and 1000 grit, then rub in a straight line for that mirror finish in 2000 grit.

I have lapped many a cpu and heatsinks and never have found a benefit of going over 800 grit. If you want it shiny, then go all the way to 2000. But it's just wasted time in my opinion.

My temps went from 42-43 to 36C, I know they will go lower but my AS5 is at my other house so I had to use pre applied junk. No load temp results sorry .

Currently, i'm seeing idles of 64~ and loads of 75~ with a wee spire cooler (2 heatpipes, and an 80mm fan, not very good, but it was close, and i didn't want to mount my TR on a concave IHS just to pull it off later.

Ideally speaking, with a good lap, and seating the Ultra 120, i should be seeing mid 50 loads; which i'm really shooting for, which would be pretty damn good for a chip with a 150w tdp, no?

depends on what cpu vcore you are using.

I have my CPU at 2.5Ghz it idles at 37-40C and loads at 47C, the IB9 needs a BIOS update I think.
