    XTC PE PC2 6400 Crash!

I recently built a gaming rig for my son and used my beloved 2x512 XTC PE PC2 6400 on a P5K vanilla with an E4300 all auto settings with XP pro Sp2. Playing World of Warcraft, no problems for 2 weeks until my son reached level 62 in the game, then crash. Reboot, in game crash, reboot, in game crash, reboot, in game crash. Error in module blah, blah, blah. Replaced them with 2x512 Ballistix PC2 5300 from my rig and no problems. Currently, he's already leveled up in the game and no problemo. What gives?

Memory can go bad. What voltage where you running on the memory? You should be running 2.1v per spec. That could be the problem.

If the voltatage has been set correct, please test each stick alone and let us know what you find. If we determine that your memory is bad we will replace it for you. You can use memtest86+ or even SuperPi 32m test to see if each stick is stable.

    Thanks

    Thanks!

Settings were at auto everything, I do not know what the voltages would be, but I will do some fiddling around tonight and go manual. If anything, the Ballistix would be the ones that require more voltage. BTW, this set of OCZ's are my babies that does 460 fsb set bios 1:1 at 2.0V with no problems on my P5B Dlx wifi. I really havn't found the time to play with the P5K yet, I've been working too much, that's why I just left it at auto. Anyways, thanks for the reply and I will report back later.

    Hi andyocz,

I just tested them at DDR2 800 at 2.1v in bios and failed SPi32m.

Did you try each stick alone? What PSU are you running in that system?

No, ya think I still need to test each of them, cuz I've tested them in World of Warcraft again DDR2 800 at 2.1v 4-5-4-15 and still crashed within 5 seconds from entering the world...error in memory module xxxxx cannot write.... I replaced the Ballistix back, even tightened the timings 4-4-4-8 and have been playing for over an hour now, no problems whatsoever. PSU: Enermax liberty 500w

Ok, so I tested the RAMs one at a time with memtest and they both passed. Then I tested them back with the P5B Dlx wifi and played World of Warcraft for 20 mins. no problem! andyOCZ I think these modules don't like their new home in the P5K. You have that board don't you? Do you have any settings that I can try?

I now got it running on the P5K, DDR2 800 5-5-5-15-6-42-10-10-11 and need 2.2V Dram with 1.4V NB to run WOW stable I'd rather not RMA these because of the hassle, besides last RMA I had with a different set I ended up just selling at a loss and got Crucial Ballistix instead. I buried this set on my sons rig hoping it would retire there until the e4300 becomes obsolete. At any rate, seems like they still have a little life in them and hope they hold out. Thanks for your help.

Ah, just as I thought I got it...my son gets a crash after an hour of WoW. Is the P35 eating up the RAMs? I have to use 2.25v with looser timings to get this thing going stable with WoW? Like I don't mind but I think they are getting killed by this board. I should still be within warranty covered voltages at 2.3v right? I'm just worried if they deteriorate some more I have no choice but to ask for an RMA , any suggestions?

Maybe a new BIOS will help, but for now the voltage you have is fine. If you end up needing an RMA, just email me with a link to this thread.

2.3V just to run DDR2-800? No that should not be necessary.

Something is not right here....what FSB are you running? How much voltage to the Northbridge?

    Here's my setting for P5K:
Manual, auto, 266, 104, DDR2-800mhz, manual, 5-5-5-15-6-42-10-10-11, auto, auto, auto, auto, 1.325v, auto, auto, auto, 2.25v, auto, 1.4v, auto.

FSB: 266 and NB 1.4v. With this setting I can get to an hour before Wow crash, but with DDR2-800 4-5-4-15-6-42-10-10-11 with 2.1v the game crashes as soon as I enter the world (5-10 seconds). And this just happened after 2 weeks of no problems whatsoever, and no changes in the system.

Like I mentioned in the previous post, at 2.1v 4-4-4-8 the Ballistix PC2 5300 had no problems with the game.

I think its worthwhile for OCZ to investigate this issue with WoW, since error 132 is predominantly exposed mostly in this game. I am beginning to think that when you reach high levels, it really maxes out RAM's and exposes it's weaknesses. With simple apps like email and internet no problems, but this game is like an Orthos of some sort. It crashes after an hour, the makers of the game blames the hardware...

Although this sure sounds like a game bug or a driver issue, you can run prime95 to test your system. If that runs, the game will, unless you are having video issues.

I can't imagine setting an OCZ employee up with WoW and having him play up to the higher levels to find an error. That just dosn't sound practical and we would have to duplicate you system exactly.

In my experience, game bug or video driver cause intermittent crashes. A stable system remains stable.

No, I don't expect your company to do that, not unless you have an R&D dept. that can make use of this information, and if they even care, they can google "error 132" and read up on it. You can wash your hands as much as you want and you can blame the game as the game maker blames the hardware. I resolved my problem by just using a more capable set of RAM's. You see, there are no issues with the Ballistix - only with the OCZ. So I will say this, maybe OCZ RAM's and Asus P5K don't like each other when playing this game.

    just for your information
error 132 in WoW is an error that is NOT related to hardware issues.
132 indicates data corruption issue with a wow item.

and it seems to me your OCZ sticks are suffering electro migration effects seeing you have to continue increasing voltage to keep the ram stable

Why then, I put the Ballistix in = no error 132, I put the OCZ in = error 132 within seconds. Like I said z, Blizzard is saying hardware issues, you say data issues, everyone pointing fingers at each other. But a simple change of RAM's did the trick for me. I like OCZ products that's why I am posting this. Maybe it can help them of sorts, but if they don't care, then that's a heads up for me to go with other manufacturers. Brand loyalty only goes so far.

Donkers, we have had no reports of a problem with your configuration. We don't normally troubleshoot specific games or applications, but if you would like to try an RMA we have no problem with that. Maybe we'll learn something from it.

If you want to RMA just email me and I'll get you started.

I emailed you after post #12 and got no response, so if it sounds like I'm bitter it's because I didn't get a reply. I will email you again.

    andyOCZ,
Yes very strange, you never answered both emails I sent you. You can answer here but not my emails? Strange...like you are playing a sick joke on me... You know what dude, forget it. Had I wanted an RMA in the beggining I would have called directly, but I loved these RAMs that I cared enough to look for answers. You represent the company and you don't even care. Yesterday, I went out and bought 2x1g Ballistix PC2 8500 over OCZ XTC PC2 8500 eventhough they have the same D9GMH. Your PSU's were on sale, I bought Silverstone instead. I may be only 1 and sure you don't need my bussiness. You are here in these forums to build a relationship aren't you? Why ruin me? Thanks, but no more OCZ fo me.

PS. If anyone asks what these OCZ RAMs are doing just sitting on my desk...what do you think I will say?

    Donkers,

Have you checked your spam filter? If Andy said he emailed you then he did. We have no reason to play games with anyone, we are here to do out jobs and have happy customers.
There are spam filters and the internet is not always perfect, mails get lost or blocked.

Everything you have described points that it could be the ram, but its not conclusive, we will replace the sticks if you like.

You have a PM with the information necessary for RMA.
