I voted 1024x768 as I think that is good size for everyone. I would be happy with 800x600 also.

It should depend on what is being shown....for instance, screenshots should be cropped if they're otherwise excessive (2560x1600 screenshots with a single CPUz in the middle for instance ).

However, project pictures should be fairly hi-res if the modder/builder wants it to be....nothing insane like 10MP, but something with a lot detail there.

Other miscellaneous images...well, it all depends on what's being shown really....here's what I mean:
In terms of a prospect for any sort of 'rule'...there will not be a rule on this. Each image is handled on a case-by-case basis....when people don't use compression (on images that can/should be compressed) and you get multi-megabyte images that can be a few hundred KB, or when people post something that's at their camera's native res (if it's a good camera, lol)....then we'll address it. But a max image size limit is fairly rediculous....some things should and can be very large.

There's a reason why some members have high-res cameras and monitors....to be able to capture and view images with a lot of detail....granted we (mostly) don't want 6+MP pictures on XS, but large images should not be shunned if the content of the image is worthwhile.

I can't imagine someone building a nice water cooled pc that they wish to display pics of and using any resolution below 1280 X 1024. That said, this is xtremesystems! Who the heck has an extreme system hooked to a tiny monitor. Smallest display I regularly use is a viewsonic 19in CRT @ 1280 X 1024. 1600 X 1200 was my vote. Though I would prefer something higher for viewing these awesome setups,

22 inch woot! I voted for 1280x960 because it fits perfectly on my monitor, but I don't mind 1024x768, wouldn't want anything below that.

Imageshack is really slow though, everyone uses it. I prefer photobucket myself, always is faster for me

1024 absolutely. I use it in all my build logs and everyone can see it without having to side scroll. Nothing irritates me more than having to scroll to the side to view an image.

I like 1280x1024.....good compromise between quality, and size imo. And everyones monitor probably supports that natively by now, least I would hope

    Agreed.

I think you might be surprised at how many people use 17" monitors yet. 800x600 will show any detail necessary in a case mod thread, and screenshots can easily be done at a lower resolution or have thumbnails used instead.

Keep in mind also that while many of us have high-speed connections, large numbers of large pictures still takes time to load. Hell, even XS threads without pics get slow sometimes.

since there's 52203 members we should have at least 1,000 votes before the results of the poll can be taken seriously.

    Voted for 1024x768

Allows me to view pictures on my main rig's screen (19") with no problem and still takes up a fair amount of space on my 1920x1200 screen.

Anyone who votes for anything above 1280 X 1024 isn't being considerate for users who don't have a 10000000000000000000000000000" screen or a OC192 internet connection.

I voted 1280x1024 cause if you want to post a screen capture with decent information you'd be hard pressed to do it under that size.

Resizing images isn't feasable because it triples the file size and ruins the image quality.

I do get annoyed by people posting uncropped screen dumps without any need for it so I'd be glad to see some sort of firm rule on it
