    No control with 3-pin either. The fan-eq works fine with IP35-E. Must be missing something. Set fan headers for 12V with CPU @ 45C HIGH, and 8.0V with CPU @ 40C LOW.

    FAN EQ is enabled for all five headers.

    I believe you need to make the raid disks from the included CD.

    Update on IP35 Pro fan control. This board will only control a fan with RPM sensing (per another post). Also note that the 4-pin fan connector can only control a 4-pin fan. The Abit IP35-E has a 4-pin/3-pin option, which will allow variable speed control of the CPU and System fan plugs, even with 2-pin fans.

    Is a bios update for the IP35 Pro required to support the G0 stepping Q6600?

    And if so has it been released yet?

    Other G0 CPUs work fine, so I'm sure the Q66 will work.
    I have tried QX6800 G0 and Fugger has tried QX6850.

    What is Max FSB on Quadcore please?
    I saw 495MHz, is this stable?

    On QuadGT, PWMs run inferno-hot with Q6600@3.9@1.58
    Is it the same on IP35?

    Thanks

    Last test was 493FSB 2h prime stable (incomplete), and yes the pwm temp was too high when priming 75-80C and this is open ambient!...for 24/7 use i wouldn't pass 460-470 unless you have better cooling for this area

    does anyone use the µguru chip for controlling his fans or is it better to buy a fan controller like aquaero or s.th. else?

    its a very hard decision between giga dq6 and ip35-pro...

    cpu will be a QX6850...cooling only air

    Got a strange problem with this board.

    Example. Set my vcore to 1.48v qx6700 to 355x10. All boots fine.

    Set my vcore to 1.55v qx6700 to 355x10. Double boots and resets back to previous bios setup.

    It seems I'm having trouble setting my vcore to anything above 1.5 ish.

    Given the vdroop, this is limiting.

    If on the few occasions I have managed to set vcore to 1.6v(1.52droop) at 360x10, on running prime the machine shuts down. It just don't like it up it.

    Never had these issues with the quad gt and was able to 3dmark up to 3.8 ghz.

    If it wasn't getting enough juice, Prime would just fail on a core, no shutdown.

    Starting to think this is power related, either with the board itself or the PSU. PSU was fine with the QUAD GT though.

    I did get 8.7. codes on initially setting this kit up, so putting 2 and 2 together possibly?

    Don't know if this has any bearing or not.

    Voltage readings from bios.

    ATX +12v (24 pin) 12.31v
    ATX +12v (8 Pin) 12.37-43v
    ATX +5v 5.2v
    ATX +3.3v 3.39v
    ATX 5vsb 5.11v

    Note: I did take the measure of wiring all but 2 small fans to fan controllers on separate sources to cut down on the draw from the motherboard.

    that is not correct...i have a 3 pin 120mm fan plug hooked up to the 4 pin on the mobo and it controls the fan just fine if enabled.

    Are you running 2 or 4 stix of ram ???

    Sounds a bit weired, I hope you find the problem soon as I am thinking of quad and I dont want to have to buy yet another Anus

    My Abit IP35-E runs fine at 475. MHC 1.2->1.45, ICH 1.5->1.6, memory voltage 2.1(Crusial Ballistix 6400 2x1GB), Cpu vcore 1.4, everything else default.

    I've tried both 2 and 4 sticks. I've set the ram under spec, loose timings and I'm pretty positive with the Gskills at least, that they aren't the problem.

    A guy in the shop, where I bought the geils from yesterday, was memtesting the same sticks(not mine) on a dfi board at 1200 mhz 4-4-4-12. Mine on this board will barely do over spec 1066 mhz 4-4-4-12.

    Unfortunately I don't have a spare PSU or CPU lying around to do further testing.

    All I know is that I have one new part in the equation. The IP35 pro.

    Will take the board and the geils back to the shop tomorrow and see what sort of results they get.

    At the moment I'm most tempted to go back to a QUAD GT. The one I left back in the UK was a great board. Rock solid.

    Does anyone here have any decent pointers regarding MCH, CPU VTT settings and GTL REF settings for a QX 6700.

    Have read a bit about GTL REFs on a DFI webpage, and have a very rough understanding. 'Rough' being an understatement.

    Basically my understanding is something along the lines of GTL REFs being a percentage of VTT and the aim being to find the sweet spot. This sweet spot will help reach higher FSBs on a quadcore, but I also assume it will enhance overall stability.

    Am I right in saying that to find the proper settings you would need to take readings from points on the motherboard with a volt meter?

    Experimenting. I've just tried a cpu vtt of 1.27 and gtl ref of 71%. 352 x 10 1.5v (1.43-1.45 guru)

    That seemed to be a pretty stable start with prime managing to run for a bit.

    Upped it to 1.52v and 355 x 10. Ran for about 2-3 minutes, then the machine shut down.

    Not sure if I'm on to something here or not???

    RLM

    edit: Looking at http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/....php?p=2322655 and http://sg.vr-zone.com/?i=4409&s=7

    It seems that for quadcore you're looking for a figure of 1.12v. In theory then shouldn't the gtlref be a percentage of the VTT setting to reach that figure? Don't really see how it works, because say 69% of 1.2v VTT is .83v which would be way off. obviously missing something???

    All my experience on the GTL refs area has been frustrating too complicated for me...
    I've been trying GTL with VTT small range areas with no success, the only parameter that seems to be critical when rising FSB in my case is mch volts
    400->1,41
    450->1,44
    475->1,51
    490->1,56
    500->1,64 not fully stable

    my Q6600 is stable enough at 500 fsb for everyday work...i can reliably prime 3 cores or 75% with 4 cores at 500 FSB at 7X multi....it will freeze after a few minutes with all four cores priming...before i took off the heat pipe system and used AS ceramique and screws to clamp it down, i wasn't even able to do one core priming without it freezing...i used vmch all the way up to maximum..i really prefer to stay at 450 FSB at 8X...that way i'm able to use less voltage for mch and ICH voltages.

    For the ram i have listed in my sig, what would be the best fsb:dram ratio to use? Im pretty confused on the options.

    Well stopped messing with GTLREF. A bit of fun, but making little difference really. I think my divider, was having most impact.

    Machine still won't boot with vcore set to 1.55 or above in bios. Just double boots and resets itself.

    CPU? Motherboard?

    Cooling isn't a problem, I removed the heatpipe, applied paste and put it back before installation. Have an 80mm fan over the NB, a 40mm over the PWM area and CPU watercooled. Priming at 3.55 ghz 1.55v it hangs around 58-62c in coretemp, before shutting down. (It's hot here)

    I like the idea of screwing down the heatpipes though Ace-a-rue. Good idea. (That or throwing it away.)

    Going to take the board back today. Not knocking the IP35 Pro. Seems to of worked well for most, but am tempted to go back to a QUAD GT.

    Just a attaching a shot I dug out from my Quad. A bit better than I'm achieving now. That's with the GSkill 6400 HZs

    EDIT-12-26-2007:...i should have recommended this right from the get-go but i want to correct it now since MANY are having success with this mod....without further ado!

    use 3/4" length bolts or 1/2" bolts

    Quote Originally Posted by strange|ife View Post

    some of the pictures are a little blurry but you can see what i did...it works well...i used AS Ceramique on the mosfets, NB and SB...there are at least 3 rows of 4 mosfets in each row...BUT...the 'TIM' hadn't even melted...it peeled off with no resistance...the NB 'TIM' was likewise...the SB had ceramique making contact on half the chipset.

    use #4-40 X 3/4" (or, 1/2" #4-40)" round headed machine bolts...to insulate the bolt head from the bottom of the motherboard, i used a #6 galvanized washer that had a rubber gromet or washer fused to the galvanized washer...just to make sure the bolt head would not be grounded to the m/b case bed, i put electrical tape over the 6 bolt heads....it looked like i had plenty of clearance but being safe is better than being sorry later on.

    getting the nut to thread on the bolt gave me some difficulty associated with the NB and the HS over the mosfets...just a tight clearance for the #4 nut to sit over the hole so i could thread the bolt...i slid the nut up against the foot or each side of the appropriate HS and then work from the bottom of the board with turning/screwing the bolt into the nut.

    after doing this mod you will need to add at least two 40mm fans, one to the NB and one to the HS over the mosfet area since the mod will increase the heat within the heatpipe..the SB is questionable about adding a 40 or 30mm fan...i couldn't do it since i just added a 8800 GTS VC to my system ...

    you kind of help yourself with taking the heat away from the chipsets and mosfets but you are now in need of additional cooling to help with cooling the heatpipe system.

    here are the pictures.
