DOUBLE EDIT:...NOPE!...same old thing with my 9650 and 17.B02 beta bios...multi is locked out above 9X

Multi unlocked and working with 17B04.

I've been given on loan a QX9770 and I'm having some funny issues.
Getting it to post has been a hell of a time.
I did get it to after an hour of trying, even went cold!

This is what I found in the bios.

Has anyone here used a QX9770 on this board, or knows of someone I can PM.
I've changed the above to 400X8, and I'm installing windoz now. But I can't seem to use anything other than 8. Do note, this has been 100% fine with the QX9650.
    hi deanzo!

i know 17.b02 did not unlock the multi on my 9650...but...as you see, 17.b04 appears to do the trick as posted above.

i tried to get my hands on a QX9770 but i was unsuccessful.

it doesn't surprise me about your 9770 issues since Abit is having a difficult time addressing the 9650 unlocking problem until now.

have you tried using the 9770 on an X48 board or X38 board?

Neither module is listed on the abit website. Will it work fine? Will I get the appropriate latency?
I've booted the CL3 Dominators from 1.8-2.4 with no issues...don't see why CL4 would have a hard time. The Pro doesn't seem to be very picky about whatever RAM it gets. I've used CL3 OCZ, CL4 Ballistix.

    Awesome.

How about compatibility with the Q9450? If I order a board from newegg now, are there any chances that it won't boot?

Out of curiousity, did you have to do anything weird to it at all? Did you have to relax the timings, down-clock them or increase voltage?

It's one of the best P35 boards with the Q9450 (mine's at 3.8ghz). But you probably won't get near that with 8gb installed.

I just had to up the memory and MCH voltages a touch for 8gb with a Q6600. But my Q9450 wouldn't run at the same clocks with 8gb as with 4gb. Tho that's simply because the Q9450 was running on its FSB limit, and 4 sticks mucked that up.

Kotty, what relation does your PSU fan have with the motherboard? Unless it has an external plug to run the fan with a motherboard header (I've never seen one and can't really think of a good reason for it), the PSU is probably spinning the fan up because it's getting warm. As far as CPU temp, you're running water, right? Are you positive it's mounted securely and squarely? What BIOS version do you have? Does it change when you put it under load or just randomly jump 20c? FanEQ is one of the better fan controlling interfaces around. Unless you have no fans, I wouldn't think it would be prudent to disable that...unless you just like fans running 100% all the time.

    Hey mate

Just flashed to 17.b04, everything seems fine with my QX9650 (though it was only on for about 10mins)
I've put the QX9770 back in, and it now posts all most every time .
It will even try and boot into windoz (the HDD I had on was for the 9650, so I didn't let it go all the way)
What it wont do, is enter the bios, No way in hell was it ever going to do it. Tried for over an hour! every time I tried it would stick at post code 75

I've got a Asus P5E3 Premium WiFi-AP (X48) board here as well, takes a bit to get your head around. But when you do, runs nice.
I don't know if it's just this board or all of them, but this P5E3 Premium runs well on air. But as soon as I try to run at -140c it's a total pig, so much so if it was mine I'd run over it with the car!
So I was going to try the IP35pro to see what the QX9770 could do. As you know my Abit board loves the cold

Think I may try and get my hands on a XFX 790i Ultra and see how that does.

I'll let you know how the new bios goes cold when I get the time.

good luck with your 9770...it sure looks like Intel through everyone a curve when it comes to running that puppy with consequences...i wonder if that 9770 would work on my giga X48T board?..hmmm...my 9650 works good on the X48T without any hindrance.

i am kind of glad that guy never sold me the 9770...it would have been money down the drain!

Just received Team XTreem DDR2 667 D9GMH from Tankguys. Considering they were $55 shipped, I'm pretty happy with them. I've had them running all morning at 1085 MHz 4-4-4-9 1T (2.3v). Not bad for PC5300

Yep, 2x1. I may have to loosen them up a bit more. Starting to get a few errors. They do like the voltage. Tried to lower to 2.5v and XP forgot who it was. I'll try 4-4-4-12 and see if it is happier.

Question: Using Memset(v 3.5), what is performance level? Is higher or lower better?

2.3v is about as high as you want to go for extended periods of operation....better yet, get a fan on the memory modules if you do not have one...but...that does not preclude you from having a failure if one of the chips was not manufactured to high standards....over-voltage always kills and if one of the parts has a weak link already, it wouldn't take long.
