hi deanzo!
i know 17.b02 did not unlock the multi on my 9650...but...as you see, 17.b04 appears to do the trick as posted above.
i tried to get my hands on a QX9770 but i was unsuccessful.
it doesn't surprise me about your 9770 issues since Abit is having a difficult time addressing the 9650 unlocking problem until now.
have you tried using the 9770 on an X48 board or X38 board?

Kotty, what relation does your PSU fan have with the motherboard? Unless it has an external plug to run the fan with a motherboard header (I've never seen one and can't really think of a good reason for it), the PSU is probably spinning the fan up because it's getting warm. As far as CPU temp, you're running water, right? Are you positive it's mounted securely and squarely? What BIOS version do you have? Does it change when you put it under load or just randomly jump 20c? FanEQ is one of the better fan controlling interfaces around. Unless you have no fans, I wouldn't think it would be prudent to disable that...unless you just like fans running 100% all the time.
Are the latest boards shipping with a bios that is Q9450 compatible?
Hey mate
Just flashed to 17.b04, everything seems fine with my QX9650 (though it was only on for about 10mins)
I've put the QX9770 back in, and it now posts all most every time .
It will even try and boot into windoz (the HDD I had on was for the 9650, so I didn't let it go all the way)
What it wont do, is enter the bios, No way in hell was it ever going to do it. Tried for over an hour! every time I tried it would stick at post code 75
I've got a Asus P5E3 Premium WiFi-AP (X48) board here as well, takes a bit to get your head around. But when you do, runs nice.
I don't know if it's just this board or all of them, but this P5E3 Premium runs well on air. But as soon as I try to run at -140c it's a total pig, so much so if it was mine I'd run over it with the car!
So I was going to try the IP35pro to see what the QX9770 could do. As you know my Abit board loves the cold
Think I may try and get my hands on a XFX 790i Ultra and see how that does.
I'll let you know how the new bios goes cold when I get the time.
good luck with your 9770...it sure looks like Intel through everyone a curve when it comes to running that puppy with consequences...i wonder if that 9770 would work on my giga X48T board?..hmmm...my 9650 works good on the X48T without any hindrance.
i am kind of glad that guy never sold me the 9770...it would have been money down the drain!

Just received Team XTreem DDR2 667 D9GMH from Tankguys. Considering they were $55 shipped, I'm pretty happy with them. I've had them running all morning at 1085 MHz 4-4-4-9 1T (2.3v). Not bad for PC5300

2.3v is about as high as you want to go for extended periods of operation....better yet, get a fan on the memory modules if you do not have one...but...that does not preclude you from having a failure if one of the chips was not manufactured to high standards....over-voltage always kills and if one of the parts has a weak link already, it wouldn't take long.
