Uguru is an excellent hardware tool...you are self-defeating yourself with this board by ignoring it or not having it active...of course, the latest version is the only one to install...doubt that Abit's disc has the latest version on it...you need to download version 3.107

did you do the heatpipe mod and add 2 fans to blow on the NB and PWM?
i did your headpipe mod. but no fans blowing on them.

i recommend two fans...only need to be 40mm's with some decent CFM...NOW...if you never get it up there with all four cores, you might be able to get away without them...BUT...any time you do Prime 95, you better have fans blowing on the NB and PWM heatsinks.

Tried to update to the latest version and now it says uGuru must close. Same on every reboot. Deleted it all and reinstalled, same result. Repeated deleting, download and installation, same result....
Oh well, at least it's still in the bios.

I'll have to give it a try...

I ironed out my oc 6 months ago and have been folding non stop since, so I rarely play with it anymore. it's just a workhorse now... plus I'm not a gamer, so the majority of my pc time is media center, ati 650 tv card, internet, email, office, cd/dvd burning, an basic non extreme type things. only reason I need the quad and oc is for folding...

it's a great dependable board... It runs non stop 100% folding on 2 smp clients for about 4000ppd, and records about 30hrs of tv a week on a media center schedule. no intervention from me except to do what I want as a user everyday. the only time I really reboot anymore is for updates or power failures..

but maybe I'll check out the new uguru for grins..

Oh, OK!...that makes more sense...now that you explained it, i see why you are not toying with Uguru...Uguru is a good one to tweak that final voltage to make it stable...sounds like you already have a VERY stable system!

Is anyone else running a Q9450 in one of these?

What's the lowest you can set your vcore to? I've only tried the 17 beta with this chip but can't set it any lower than 1.2375v. The VID's 1.1250v according to Core Temp.

uninstall Uguru even deleting the folder...shut the computer down and now clear the CMOS with battery out for about 5 minutes...after doing that, re-enter the bios and load "optimized default" settings; save!..go back into the bios and now set it up the way you want it.

go into windows and now re-install Uguru version 3.107...lets hope this gets you back on track.

Any feedback on what the best BIOS is to use?
Using 17b2 currently, but everyone keeps talking about 16b10...

Just curious if I should roll back to that beta or not?

have you tried "Auto"; and of course, not overclocked while setting it on auto?...it was the only way i could get my low VID to be set...that was only on one beta bios...all the rest had it set around 1.20v in Auto.

I've got a X3350, i think the chip has more than my current 3.6 but anything past 450fsb starts getting really unstable. I need to play with it more next week.

Also, with the official 16 bios i was able to run it at its default vid, I think mine was the same as yours.

Not sure an average Q6700 speed. However, if you're interested, there is a whole other thread by this same name at the abit forums (and it's 133 pages long). There is a lot to read, just like this one...but if you want to and if it helps, great!

They need lots of VTT and MCH voltage to get over 450mhz. I can get 475mhz OCCT stable with VTT at 1.32v and MCH at 1.52v. You'll probably have to mes with your GTL's as well.

I passed 8 hours of Prime95 small FFT's last night at 475x8, but she froze as I was setting up the screenshot

Gonna try again today.

probably need to tweak the voltage more or relax the timings...maybe both.

Upped the vcore by 0.01v this morning and ran it in Vista this time. Failed after 5 hours.

Trying again with another 0.01v. If that falls over then I'll play with the NB voltage again. I've already had to up the NB to 1.52v for 3.8ghz.

I'm dreading to think what NB voltage I'll end up at when I'm trying it with 8gb installed.

Any suggestions on getting to 3.6 or 3.8?

I've bolt modded, lapped both HS and CPU. so i dont have to worry about temps much.

yeah i think im going to give up...the only other variable is the multiplier. will much change if i lower the multiplier and up the FSB?

CPU GTLREF plays a part in successful Prime 95

EDIT:...what you should do is max out ICHIO and MCH so you eliminate those 2 voltages having any influence...now, you can adjust vcore, cpu vtt and cpu gtlref

e3110@4ghz almost stable

Gezz 2 weeks of reading!!! keep up the good work !

Now I can post my noob questions :P

Here's what I have done so far.

First step: can my cpu and my board can handle 500 fsb x 6 .... a simple increase to increase mch@1.37 done it.
Rock solid !!!10 hours sp2004 x 2 with large ffs. followed by a 10 hours mem test.

Second Step: I assumed that the only thing I had to do was to increase vcore and fsb at x9 multiplicator.

so far I can play and do my stuff at 446x9 =4014mghz vcore@1.4750 in bios 1.43 to 1.41 in cpuz under load. I fix my mem@1.20 to be around 1066 @ 2.2250v to 2.2 under load.

**edit**cpuvtt@1.20 since I read it can help in Oc but in my case no real impact****

but now I cant get the same stability in one of the sp2004... after < 2 hours one of the sp2004 (oftenly the cpu0) stop working.

Do you know what should I increase to get a little bit more stability on sp2004? maybe more vcore...

yeah yeah I KNOW sp2004 means nothing but to me it does.

btw I know my english is not perfect.

My first instinct would be more vtt.

maybe it will!

Be careful...some have reported Wolfdales degrading after high voltage runs. Formerly stable levels are suddenly no longer sustainable.

EDIT:...what you should do is max out ICHIO and MCH so you eliminate those 2 voltages having any influence...now, you can adjust vcore, cpu vtt and cpu gtlref
GTLREF is already at 71%. Seems to be the sweet-spot in this set-up as 72% fails pretty quickly.

Still haven't been able to get 475x8 stable yet. Keeping the vcore at 1.4475v, VTT at 1.32v and MCH at 1.52v gives the best results. I've started messing with the southbridge voltages now to see if they'll have any effect.

It's been folding fine at 3.7ghz with 1.4075v vcore (in BIOS, so less just over 1.3v under load), 1.32v VTT and 1.48v MCH for the last 18hrs, so 3.8ghz Prime95 stable should be possible unless 475mhz is really impossible on this board with this chip.
