    Macro Thread

Let's dedicate a thread to macro photography. If this gets popular I will make it a sticky.

I won't restrict it to "true" macro pictures (larger than life size) because we wouldn't get very many posts. Pictures posted in here can be anything created with the Macro Mode on your camera, or with a macro lens.

The size limit will be 1024x768 per picture. I want them to be large enough, but I don't want people posting full-size pictures in here straight off their camera. I would hope people have more common sense than that anyway

It helps to post EXIF data as well, but it isn't required.

Let's start off with this one...

Camera model: Canon PowerShot S3 IS
    Date/Time: 2007:05:27 15:28:42
    Resolution: 827 x 627
    Flash used: No
    Focal length: 6.0mm (35mm equivalent: 129mm)
    CCD width: 1.68mm
    Exposure time: 0.025 s (1/40)
    Aperture: f/2.7
    ISO Speed: 100
    Whitebalance: Manual
    Metering Mode: center weight

dag nabbit, now I have to hunt down all of my macro shots that I have posted up over the years.

I think if you restricted it to "true" macro shots there wouldnt be a single photo in this thread considering those lenses cost about 1000 dollars.

Much less than that, you can get a low end macro lens for $200 or so.

Why do people always make macro shots of flowers and insects?
I do macro shots of hardware
    taken with generic automatic camera

And to fulfill the tradition a macro shot of insect:

    xoqolatl,
Yeah, insects are boring. And nasty. *shudder*
    That's why I prefer the ever-so-pretty spiders.

    Ha-ha.

I am not afraid of spiders but what's so interesting in taking photos of them? i have bought a camera recently and "super macro mode" is the most often used one; but I never thought of making flowers photos. I shot hardware (slowly completing a collection of bare silicon cores ), some daily use things, Warhammer miniatures... but never spiders or flowers.
Will post more pics when my brother gets back home with my camera.

Canon's best all around macro lens is 500$.

Most would even argue that it's the sharpest lens Canon has ever produced.

I don't have a smaller version of these and don't feel like making one. Larger versions are available by clicking the pictures, as well as EXIF data.

Nice to see someone from Nebraska since I grew up about 30 min outside of Lincoln.

    lovely photos. thank you all

here is my little contribution: pic taken with my Samsung Digimax i5 ^^

I believe it to be related to Lymantria Dispar but not sure about it though, I mean it's the closest thing that visually matches. I only saw it once in my 11 years of living here Belgium (Tervuren). So feel free to identify it.

    Thanks Grinch.
I learned today from two nice fellow from Hardware.fr that it was in fact a Cerura Erminea and not Lymantria Dispar as I previously thought it was.
