Mushkin 4GB HP2-6400 Test Report

About two weeks ago, Mushkin launched a new 4gb kit, HP2-6400 5-4-4 modules, designed for both high-performance and value. This kit is priced lower than the 4GB XP2-6400 and 4 GB XP2-8500 kits, (currently at $345 on Mushkin site & Newegg). I got the chance to test a set of this stuff and I must say I am quite pleased with the performance especially in this price range.

That being said, here is your Mushkin HP2-6400 Redline (part 996564) test report:

First I’ll start with a few words on the test platform and shots of the RAM and board. I’m using an E6600 Conroe setup with a DFI LANParty UT ICFX3200-T2R (RD600). The HP2-6400 uses the FrostByte™ (blue) heatspreader spreaders and comes with Mushkin’s new packaging.

Testing methodology:
I don’t plan on killing this kit quite yet so I am sticking to 2.3v for the time being. If I get ambitious later on, Ill run a few 2.4v benches. Also, I realize that I am only using a 32bit OS which can only test a lil over 3gb at a time, however I don’t have a 64bit at the moment so that will have to do for now. Ill try and pick up Vista 64 next week and run a few more tests.

Benches used:
Super PI v1.5 (two instances of 32M)

Tools:
AMD System Manager (clockgen and mem tweeking tool)
Smart Guardian
SetFSB

I am going to test 4-3-3, 4-4-4, and 5-4-4 using 2.0v, 2.1v, 2.2v, and 2.3v for the mem.

Now for some test results:

4-3-3 – 2.0v – 400Mhz


4-3-3 – 2.1v – 435Mhz



4-3-3 – 2.2v – 451Mhz



4-3-3 – 2.3v – 460Mhz

Summary



A few observations:
1) For secondaries I found that this RAM is quite responsive to loosening trp and trcd a bit. Don’t expect to run the same settings as GMH.
2) tras should be kept above 10 for best results, it actually effects stability in this case
3) Lower drive strength seems to be better than high.
4) CAS has a huge impact on clock speed

Overall I think this is a good bang for your buck if you are looking for a 4gb kit.

I think the frequencies after "5-4-4 - 2.2v" and "5-4-4 - 2.3v" are lower than what is shows in the cpu-z ss! The cpu-z screen would make sense, cause the frequencies seem to be moving down instead of up with higher voltage!

This kit sounds pretty nice though. 5-4-4 ddr2-1076.
I wonder what pc2-8500 kits give!

This kit indeed uses Micron D9GSV. They're 1Gbit (128Mx8) ICs with a P/N of MT47H128M8B7-3. B7 means it's 68-/84-ball, 10x16.5mm.

Very similar to the results i got. Mine maxed at 536 5-4-4-12 2.3v.

Just ordered this kit.

It seems that they changed the chips:
All the reviewers had D9GSV Microns on it, now the chips are D9HBD Micron.
Can't say anything to the performance yet.

New Muskin Kits use D9HBD. So it seems they sent out the first Kits with D9GSV and changed now to D9HBD.

Thanks for the 411! Please post back with your results as I really hope to hit 500fsb with a pair of these which all the reviews did, but if that was with the D9GSVs and they are now shipping D9HBDs that seems kinda scandalous unless they OC the same and it makes me leery of pulling the trigger.

Yes, the parts did go from -3 to -37 because -3 was no longer available. However, Mushkin tests and bins both parts the same and took the hit with lower yield but giving us the ability to provide a solution for the product(s). Mushkin has sent out reviews with both the -3 and the -37 chips.

So every kit that ships in the moment uses D9HBD instead of D9GSV but the DHB are selected, so they'll reach D9GSV speeds?

I hope my D9HBD's will reach 500Mhz (5-4-4-12) with 2,2V Max

this ram rocks i just installed it on my bros computer it does same thing ass my xp2 43310 that cost 500$ but dont know why @43310 it gives me a very low score 7500 now when i change it to 44410 it gives the right score 7900 ....might want to check that out ...it does it on ither sandra or everest ..

That's probably because trcd = 4 gives better performance than trcd =3 w/ p5B and 1066 strap.
