The long awaited next Starcraft game is a MMO

Ugh. This makes me sick. I've been waiting for Starcraft 2 for so long. The voice acting scripts and campaign was stuff of legends in Starcraft. Why would they do this? I was really disappointed in World of Warcraft because they never finished The Frozen Throne's story (but then I refused to pay to play so I don't know if they finished it). Blizzard needs to go back to their RTS soul. Online needs to be second.

Considering wow is the single most successful mmo pretty much ever I'd say that all the naysayers have a good chance of being wrong. I liked the RTS as much as the next person but there is no denying how much of a hit WoW is.

I don't think starcraft fans worry about that. They just know this isn't starcraft lol.

I really despise having to pay for the ing box, and then paying again every single month. I categorically reject MMOs for this very reason.

If the game cost me NOTHING and then I paid a _reasonable_ rate per month then I'd play, I think $7-12 is reasonable.

While It would be interesting to play a Starcraft MMO due to the sci-fi theme and universe, I'd imagine it would be pretty hard to pull off. Where do the Zerg fit in, just NPCs to be killed by Protoss and Terrans? Itemizing would be pretty weird too as well as fitting vehicles in

Have they ever been anything other than greedy? All they seem to do is blatently copy warhammer and wh40k, while dumbing down the RTS genre enough that 50 billion kids will buy their games.

That's why SC and to an extent WC3 are considered some of the most balanced RTS games and are the only ones used in competitive play? Yeah...

its all rumours of course but, it'll be pretty crowded if both wow, diablo3 AND starcraft are on the market at the same time.

You may need to add a title or 2 to your list ( if rumours are true ), 1 more MMOTPS to come hopefully in Q4 2007 - Q1 2008 and the possibility of another starting development in 2008 .

Seems that several people do not like mmo's , and yet boardrooms see the genre as a way to generate significant funds . With new engines released that would suite mmo's maybe you will see more in the future .

A starcraft MMO would/will suck for blizzard. All it will do is steal customers from WOW... and futuristic MMOs seem to be MUCH MUCH MUCH less successful than fantasy historic ones. Diablo 3 as a MMO would work but be dumb, starcraft as a MMO, I can't see coming close to WoW's gameplay. It'd probably steal about 1/3 of WoW's audience away immediately, and then it'll stay WoW's gimpy little brother.

As far as MMORPG's go WoW has is more than success, it's record breaking and standards setting.

If starcraft follows in WoW footsteps like the Original Starcraft followed the turn based Warcrafts winning formula then how can it be anything but a winner, maybe not to those looking for a turn based, no subscription game but otherwise the market is there and chances are it'll only get bigger in today's world.

I do agree with everyone saying it won't be the same game like WoW changed when it was brought over, but to call it a insta fail is wrong conisdering Blizzards track record in general.

Bummer, I always wanted an RTS one. But hey, it's not like I run the company nor am I the one who wants to get big with business and earn $$$. They are a company that aims to make money, and if this is where they think the money is, then great job.

I don't think they'll mind losing me as a customer, and it works both ways: I never liked their game, I don't buy it, and move on while they make more money, and prosper and that's good for all their employees, shareholders, and management.

I wish them all the luck...

A sad day if they make it a MMO. While surely they're living it up with the WoW success and the cash they are earning they could invest it to have a team think of up other idea's for new products or even bringing back old games with a revised feel to them.

Surely not go and toss money out the window on stupid idea's but just something.

diablo 3 could very well make a pretty wicked rts. but honestly i think it dumb for blizzard to not consider making starcraft an rts. (could be perhaps they wouldn't think it could hold its own nowadays?)
