    OC on 3800+ X2

I've got an AM2 3800+ X2 on an ABit KN9 board and find my OC doesn't really get much higher than 2.8GHz, currently running at 2.4GHz because I've not really noticed the need for alot more.

Anyway, I was just basically looking out for any tips on pushing it closer to 3GHz for... well the purpose of being able to say I did.

Also, it's under a freezerpro64 and the RAM is nothing special, 800MHz MicronMajor, be changed to a decent 2GB kit when the funds are there.

2.8GHz is not that bad for an A64. What voltage did it need? Try to find out what's holding you back (CPU, mobo or RAM) by lowering the CPU multi and/or RAM frequency. I supose you already lowered the HTT multi to 3x.

Yeah it was at 3x, will lowering it anymore help?

I think the voltage was about 1.4/1.5 from the 1.25v EA 3800+. I think it's the RAM personally because, well, it's really not the best of RAM. I saw a good deal on an 800MHz 2GB OCZ kit, would that give me some form of improvement there because I'm looking into 2GB soon anyway.

Depends on what chips are used on both sets, you can have a look at http://ramlist.ath.cx/ to check out the chips on a large ammount of sticks

Thanks for the help guys, the reason I was wanting to push it a bit more was just because I saw the WR at being 3.1GHz or so on the database on an ABit board and thought I might aswell have a go at it.

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MY-072-OC

This is the OCZ I saw and it's fairly cheap in price, would that have a positive effect on my OC being "better" RAM or won't it give me alot more?

Ram on 400 in bios or 200 if you prefer.Like that your Ram is good for test your cpu.
It's an EE likes cpu ? Your stock Vcore is 1.25V ?
    X 3 is good,but for a WR, it's better to put X1.
    With box fan ,my 3800X2 takes 3Ghz.Pi 1M at 2.93 Ghz.Temp full 1M 38°.Idle 26°.
    With 1.70 at Vcore.
If you can ,Vchip et Vht ?

Wait and see for news records.

Yeah stock volts are 1.25, Energy efficient. Currently sitting at 1.35 @ 2.4GHz.

    X3 and X1?

I'm trying to keep up here, VChip and VHT?

I've also got me an Athlon X2 3800+ EE recently on an Asus M2N-E.
Your 2.8Ghz is a lot more than the 2.66GHz I'm stuck at. I can boot @2.7GHz but it isn't stable. I may need a better cooler.

My memory sticks are also the cheapest 800Mhz money can buy, however they do 866Mhz without any problems. I think 900Mhz is doable if I add more voltage to it. But haven't tried it yet.

I've found the max. stabble cpu clock by lowering HyperTransport to 3x and memory to 400Mhz. Multiplier @ 10. HyperTransport can do 300Mhz with ease. So the problem can't be memory or HyperTransport.

Anyway, it's good enough for me, I wish I had a much faster harddisk subsystem, because that's the bottleneck I currently have. Not CPU or GPU.
Unreal Tournament 2004 runs very smooth and fast, it's just the long time loading of maps that's killing me. SimCity 4 is also quite fast, unless you have a large map fully build, but that's just a matter or more RAM.

What cooler you using? The FreezerPro64 works quite well, didn't go above 45 or so at 2.7GHz.

The WR for a 3800+ is only 3100? Or is that an air cooled WR? I woudl think guys with Mach II's and stuff are getting 3400-3600 regularly with them.

Most 3800x2's max out at 2900 on air, maybe! mine doesn't go past 2855 stable phase gets you to 3100ish...

I just saw the 3600+ is out over here, does my board (Abit KN9 NF4) need a BIOS reflash to support the 65nm chip or can I just drop it in?

Donno about the BIOS part, but why would you go from a Windsor to a Brisbane? Don't you know it's slower clock for clock?

Really? I thought it would perform better being the 65nm architecture. Don't they do better OCs overall though or is that just early steppings?

AFAIK they OC about the same, but even if Brisbane would be a bit better it would only be enough to compensate for the slower clock for clock performance. Check out some benchies here. Take a good look at FEAR and the 2nd Valve bench where almost all Windsors (except for 3800+) are faster than any of the Brisbanes.
    3800, 4200, 4600, 5000 are Windsors
    3600, 4000, 4400, 4800 are Brisbanes

So my 2.8GHz OC will be faster than being at 2.8GHz on a 65nm Brisbane? That makes no sense but it's really odd.
