x1650pro and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

well me and my friend tryed to play ghost recon, he has a 7900 so hes fine. My rig was:

    P4 3.0E prescott
    Abit ic7-max3
    Kignston hyper X pc3500 2*256 dual channel
    ATI 9800pro

I had like 10 fps , the game on all high settings looked like a 1998 videogame, no details no texture... awful.. and my crossair was aiming so bad it was always moving around i couldnt aim at all.

so i decided maybe its my videocard ill just go get a x1650pro 512mb DDR AGP8x it will probably get 30 fps i hope, its a videocard 2 generation after the 9800pro

so i got it and its 30days full refund so i dont mind getting a card.

i installed and now what, its the exact same thing. the game looks like a 1998 videogame, lags the same, same crossair problem....

i tried my other video games... Warcraft 3, prince of persia3, guild wars... i see no improvement in ALL of them , same fps in all of the games, even prince of persia seems to have lower fps. ( i usually use 1600x1200, 16AF and no AA with all graphics on high in all of the games)

so basically is the x1650pro that ty or i just installed it bad or my cumputer really do suck... anyway thanks to all

oh ok...well truth be told the 9800 pro was on par with the x700pro, which is on par with the x1650pro...hence the performance you got.

However, we'll have to reconsider your membership at xs if you buy video cards from Futureshop X(

Have you ever considered maybe more RAM would help? I mean, 512MB is nothing for modern games. You should consider at least a gig, or even 2GB as average 2GB kits are dirt cheap now.

If you're seeing terrible lag across the board it points to a problem other than the video card, save the rare instance that you got a defective unit.

And Perkam, the X1650PRO is meant to perform in the same ballpark as the 7600GT, so I'm not seeing the comparison you're drawing between it and a 9800Pro, which doesn't even feature SM3. Hell, the 9800Pro is almost 4 years old, man.

that would explain the lag, but what would explain the low detailed textures and terrains... and graphics , its really ugly even everything on high

If you are able to borrow someone's RAM, like 2x512MB or better yet, 2x1GB, I would suggest running tests under that configuration. If you still see graphical anomalies and artifacts, it's likely bad vRAM or something similar. However, it may just be that you're pushing the card beyond its limits. Gaming at 1600x1200 on an X1650Pro is pushing it, especially with details on high.

for ghost recon i am not using those settings, im using like eveyrithing on mimum at 800x600 and it has like 10 fps .... i tryed though at 1280 everything at max... still really ugly i dont even really see a difference, but at my friend's though with is 7900 its so nice and smooth. what i mean is that with the same settings of graphics... without taking notice of the lag , its wayyyyyyyyyyy nicer on my friends 7900 than on the x1650, even if i set every settings to the same.

    Eh?

The X1650Pro is originally a rebadged X1600xt, which sucked arse against the 7600GT...hence the reason the X1650XT had to be released to be on par with the 7600.

Check the numbers before thinking you know more than someone who waited 3 years for a decent mid range offering after the X800GT.

Maybe I'm thinking of the X1650XT?

    Most likely....which this isn't...its a half as*sed 4 pipeline card...much slower even than the x700pro or the x800gt.

For the same price you could have bought a nice agp 7600GS...which should've ran GRAW a tad bit better.

But yea...if you wish to see 30 fps, even at 1024x768, you'll need an x1950PRO/X1900GT/7900GS.

How dare he challenge your veritable fountain of knowledge!?!?! The nerve!

Omastar, just wait 4 years for your next card and you can know even more.
In all seriousness, X1600XT overclocked and Xfire'd can provide good(realtively, of course) frame rates. I'm not saying you couldn't buy a better card for the price of 2 X1600XTs though.

Two times the Crap doesn't = Good.

X1600XT in most games, even in xfire, would drop to single card performance levels even at 1024x768 when as little as 4xaa and 8xaf was enabled.

The exceptions that are there like CoH and a few others that have recently seen better performance from these cards is due to drivers, which sucked for many months after launch.

It all depends on what you play and how (what res. and settings). That is why I qualified my statement with the word, relatively. Even though I fat fingered a key and spelled it wrong.
For me, the cards work just fine. Of course I'm not a serious gamer, either. I speak from experience in over a year of running X1600XTs, crossfired, at over 800Mhz core.
