Realtek releases drivers almost weekly. It has been that way for years and years.
does this board run OK with crucial ballistix pc5300 ram (and ballistix in general, 6400/8500) or does it need the spd changed to work? How does it handle 4x1gb btw?

4 x 1Gb
Im pretty sure it will be no trouble, I remember Dinos saying that pc4200 didnt work till he flashed it; I think Id know about it if pc5300 didnt work.
Crucial pc6400 works great:

also, used 4gb (4x1gb of corsair value select 667), and now have 4gb of 800mhz buffalo firestix, no problems.
Hello !
I have a problem with P35 DS4 board.
I downgraded BIOS to F3 and when I start the computer, after detect all my HD's, systems said AHCI BIOS Not Installed.
I tried to upgrade to F4 again, and the problem still here.
Anyone know when I solve this problem ?
Thank you
I am currently testing a GA-P35-DQ6... talk about a step up from the Rev 1 DS3!! I am able to use as much as a 0.05v lower Vcore setting to hit the same overclocks up to 3.6GHz on my E6300, and the vdroop is simply negligible. Likely the reason why.
For anyone using Micron D9 based memory over 1GHz must change the RAM DLL setting to "Option 2" otherwise they are going to have unexplained errors, crashes, and BSODs under special conditions. Coretemp is a great indicator, if you use Micron D9 RAM at PC2-8500 but leave "Option 1" as default, you can start Coretemp and it will likely BSOD your system. I could reproduce this like clockwork on both my Gigabyte 965P-DS3 and P35-DQ6 boards... this goes away when you use Option 2. Yes, you can install Windows with "Option 1" set, but there is that 1% of instability even at fully stock speeds until Option 2 is set.
Once switching to Option 2, I have had zero issues with my 2GB of Crucial Ballistix 1067Mhz RAM, absolutely none. I'm using the BIOS the board shipped with (The only one I see on their site) which is F4. It is a far cry from the buggy first three BIOS releases for the DS3 of old. I'm currently halfway through a 24 hour Orthos run at 3.5GHz. I can get 3.6GHz stable, but so far I can't seem to stabilize my E6300 at 3.73GHz yet. It's stable enough for browsing but not Orthos.

Ive not tried option 2 yet and I have crucial pc6400 ballistix 2 x 1Gb, and coretemp is usually the first program I load to test. Running at 562Mhz ram with 1.95v, although my cpu is clocked at only 3Ghz. Can do 3.2Ghz but at orthos load 3Ghz can touch 65'c aircooling.
Your issue with option 1 might be related to having a fast clocked cpu (or not, but only could test that).
I've never had any problems with 4GB of D9GMH and option 1. Option 2 just likely increases drive strength to the DRAM.
Windows XP installed normally, so I first assumed the Micron D9 RAM was a non-issue with this new board... however at fully stock settings as soon as I tried to start Coretemp it toasted the system. Considering the system was stable at it's stock 1.86GHz, infact it was running 5-5-5-18 and not 5-5-5-15, there is no reason for it. I did manually set the correct RAM voltage of 2.2v. By default it was running at the rated 1067Mhz speed... I am faily sure this issue with Micron D9s only becomes an issue with RAM at or above 1GHz. I did fix the voltage typo in my above post, should have been 0.05v...

another q, how does this board run with OCZ 8500 SLI Edition or OCZ 8500 Reaper HPC? 2x1GB... I'm gonna hold off from 4gb for now and ballistix 8500 just shot up in price in the UK. (at crucial.com)

I'm starting to have suspicions that the some of the bios settings for memory timings in the F4 bios are innacurate or broken. Standard performance seems to give better bandwidth than turbo or extreme and looser secondary ram timings seem to offer greater memory bandwidth. It's all a bit confusing for me.
I also seem to have a mhz (not a fsb wall) with my cpu. I can run orthos for hours at 3.6Ghz (8x450) on my E6600 @ 1.54xxx volts, but even increasing the bus speed to take the cpu even just 80mhz higher results in a crash in orthos after a matter of minutes or seconds, regardless of voltage used.
This is also true if I use the 9x multi and clock up from 400mhz fsb. I can post @ 3.8ghz and get into windows with a bit of a voltage bump with acceptable temps but it will do anything except pass at orthos.
This past week I added a new D5 pump to my water loop to help my existing D4 and put a #5 nozzle in my RBX block, which have lowered CPU temps under load by over 10 deg.C, but this hasn't helped. I'm a bit rusty at the overclocking lark but I'm not that green and I am starting to wonder if this board (or bios at least) has issues.

Like I said just use F3 BIOS.....it'll give you better memory performance than F4.
My current rig:
Core2 Duo E8600 @ 4.5Ghz|Team Xtreem 6400C3 2GB kit|Gigabyte EP45-UD3R F6 BIOS|Sapphire Radeon 4870 512MB |WD Raptor 150GB|Plextor PX-716A|Silverstone TJ-09|Enermax Galaxy DXX 850W
I probably won't get believed about the RAM, but maybe this will show I know at least a little about what I'm doing. This was almost like a completely different chip from when I did the same OC on my Rev 1 DS3, not to mention it needed less volts. Due to image size I'm only using hotlinks.

I suspect if I was willing to use 1.6v I could take a potshot at 4GHz, but I'll leave that for a different time. I did verify the P35 chipset is on par with Nvidia's regarding RAM overclocking... I got this Ballistix kit up to 1220MHz @ 2.4v, fully Memtest+ 1.7 stable.
