psh, I don't care either way. I'll be happy to see another card at least fighting for the high end. I can almost feel the prices falling.

typical alpha-male behaviour around here...ATI made monstercard? It's WOOOT ATI all over the place.ATI made a mediocre card? It's BOOOOH ATI all over the place?ATI still gets my money, due to better drive support.Besides,i'm coming from a 9800 card,so ANY new card will look like a gazillion times better.

Its Likely that AMD will have alot more influence in the design of the R700 so my expectations ofit are high so lets just hope that the r700 will do wel vs the card that Nvidia puts against it.

This strikes me as funny, what could amd teach ati about gpu's? Its like saying k10 must be better now that they have ati

That's like saying we'll be having a few dozen DX10 games by the end of this year and everyone has installed Vista... not a chance...
This line up is for DX9 games... by the time DX10 games are more available we'll be discussing the release of the next gen cards.... I can't wait....

Sad, very sad. Well I would just like to say " I TOLD YOU SO". The AMD acquisistion of ATI was going to be the anchor to sink both ships for awhile and they may not even recover. They will not go under but there business make up may well go towards a model that does not encompass the high end video card business at all.

I would like to see IBM or Intel take on the reins at this point.

    Poor ATI

It's ATI who developped R600 not AMD so what the point of blaming AMD aprt of the late release and we don't know if it's really AMD fault even to the late release.

Again, "doomsday for ATI" - why? Can't a company go through a rough time without people chanting that they are gonna die out or something? They were on top of things with the X1900 series not that long ago. They have been behind of nVidia before that. So they are behind again, so....? That is the way things work!

I say all these reviewers use the initial driver for the 8800 series to be fair.
Especially after this most recent driver from nvidia which I wouldn't be amazed if it was just like the the FX series when AF was turned off lol.

As mentioned, AMD/ATI will redefine there strategies and I don't believe that the high end gpu for the pc market will survive - that's what I mean. Re-read what I said!

The money isn't in the High end marked anyway, AMD will earn money on the HD2600 and 2300 series. They may not perform much better than the 8600 and the 8300 but may end up cheaper (Production wise) and lower power consumption so they seem like a sweet deal for Mobile and Workstations.

Man, the writing was on the wall for months that this was going to be ATI's NV30. If you didn't find the rumors believable or the delays suspicious, then when they came out and said they were going to be undercutting the G80 on price said it all. No way a new flagship comes out and using its low low price as a selling point unless something is seriously screwed up.

Anyway this doom and gloom is overdone. The over $200 GPU market is tiny, and the 8600s are weak. If DAAMIT can get the RV630 out soon and performing reasonably they won't lose much in terms of market share or dollars. Pride, however, is a different story.

I am not a Ati fan, I buy whatever has the better bang for the buck. Keep in mind that this is only one review.
What if it turns out that the XT is on par with the GTS 640Mb, but only costs as much as the 320Mb GTS? I would get the XT in that case, so be patient until we will see some more reviews.
You can still buy Nvidia cards afterwards. There are no DX10 games out at this point, so it is not that bad not having a DX10 card right now..

Exactly what I'm thinking. AMD can come back and kick Nvidia in the midsection where it really hurts.

but what if its crysis in dx10, and is the only dx10 game on the market, it would show ati's dominance in dx10 for that time.

So let me get this straight ,,, 7 months later , more memory , wider bus width , more shaders and still it is get pwned by GTX OC and all that time we have been hearing how fast the R600 is and they should prepare the 8800 Ultra for it blah blah blah ,,, it would have been better to tweak the X1950XTX as DX10 card for under 250$ price range and drop that R600 thing and start from scratch not to wast all that time on a bad architecture
