    Geil launches carbon-fibre RAM

    Source -The Inquirer

THERE ARE SEVERAL DRAM manufacturers that are catering to the enthusiasts right now, and we can say that Geil has now gone the furthest distance.
The firm just released Esoteria series of memory modules. They plan to cater to the racing car addicts, because the heat-spreaders feature carbon-fibre. This is not a typo - Vorsteiner, German tuner of BMW cars is in charge for manufacturing according carbon-fibre elements, clearly showing that this is a memory not for ninja-PC's, but rather Formulae of PC World.

We feel one BMW V8 coming our way, but we're not sure will it use this memory.

The memory itself is available in two specifications - PC2-6400 or DDR2-800 and PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066). We have used GeIL's MultiSpec PC2-8500/9600 memory module for close to a year now, and all of this time memory worked at either 1.2 GHz with CAS5, 4-4-15 settings, or at 800 MHz with CAS3, 3-3-9 - all the time at 2.4V, with no issues at all.

This memory is specced at CAS4, 4-4-12 latencies, with voltage range going from 2.1 to 2.5 Volts, and SPD is optimised for this amount of punishment. Memory sports limited lifetime warranty, although we are sure of one thing alone - this memory is 99% resistant to the 680i chipset and its 2.4V problem. May may see it ship. µ
The Carbon Li needs a pair or 2 of these.

From the stated specs it seems like the sticks would be quality. Hopefully its more Formula than Ricer. Possibly cost as much as one to boot.

Inquirer has ZERO idea if this is true. The issue is the volts not the heat for the RAM. 2.4v is 2.4v on 680i.

These sticks of RAM will be lighter in weight so they should overclock extremely well.

carbon fibre would seem to be a rather poor conductor of heat, I am a bit curious.
Microsoft's homepage can be found at: thesource-dot-ofallevil-dot-com - interesting, no?

carbon is lighter so the computer will go faster with these rams.

You didn't know? Well it's been forum proven that the lighter the ram the more you can OC it . Oh and I almost forgot about the red/yellow nylon flame stickers you put on the ICs, it makes them go faster

You know, theres no mention of heat at all in that article. There is however a lot of volts banded around. You think they may have just asked Geil if the ram was resistent to the 2.4v issue?

    That made me snicker..

Maybe I should paste these sticks to the front of my car then. Paired with my Cobra I shall be.. *Gasp* INVISIBLE!

But in hindsight, wouldn't the carbon crap indeed provide poor heat transfer?

Yes, I believe that carbon fiber is terrible when it comes to thermal transfer.

fiber itself yes but carbon nanotubes own most materials in thermal conductivity(6000W/m/K at room temperature for nanotubes and only 385W/m/K for pure copper.......)

If these were from nanotubes, they would cost much more.

    LOL its not carbon nanotubes...
It's carbon fabric weaved together and harded with epoxy... like all carbon fiber products for cars.

Yeah carbon fibre will melt at high temperatures, which is why some Formula 1 teams wrap some peices with gold to deflect the heat from the car's exhaust. But the exhaust is from a V8 engine spinning at about 20,000 rpm, so I doubt your computer gets close to the same temperature. Carbon Fibre is not a good heat conductor, but we'll have to wait and see what Geil does with it.
God's in his heaven, all's right with the world.

If its gimicky car style carbon fibre yes it's crap and geil deserve > although I've noo doubt these will sell very well to the pc modding equivalent of ricers .

Sony already use cheaper carbon based heatsinks in their smaller laptops with thermal conductivity in the 500W/K/m range so there is potential that carbon coolers will overtake copper quite soon. As said though volts kill ram not temps so these are useless anyway .
