ya i have but not much higher ... running the latest STABLE bios ...

400 FSB is really the sweet spot from what i've seen... as you go higher than that its a lot of GTL tweaking. at the time i was burnt out and didn't want to put in the effort to go higher.

but i'm about to start tweaking again and am thinking of going for something like 425x7 or 450x7 although i doubt i could get it stable at 450...

Yeah... I found it fruitless to push beyond 400FSB... even on a lower multi.

I finished my review this week of the DFI board, better late than never I guess

    Find it here

I got to 450FSB stable with my QX6700, but it took some VTTand GTL-ref tuning indeed. I found Tony's setting (click) to be almost spot on, only slight variations necessary. Of course, like with P965, extreme edition cpu's could behave slightly different than others when lowering multi's to get higher FSB.

wow... so i got my first "hard crash" tonight . .. .

playing capcom's LOST PLANET which is a great game BTW... using my standard 8x400 OC which has been stable for months.

the game is extremely graphics intensive and pushes my dual GTX setup to its limits. about 40 minutes in the whole rig just shuts off. hahaha.. =/

i am thinking PWM over-heating issue. first time i've seen it. i can't imagine what else it could be. i don't have active cooling on the PWM but i guess i gotta figure something out. either that or lower the voltages somehow... UGH. .. . .

check out lost planet man its good !! haha

Hmm, I've added reply yesterday but I don't see it Than again, there is a 2GB barrier on Windows both XP and Vista (32-bit of course) which is causing Supreme Commander to crash Please look at http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3044

hrmm... once i got my GTL's sorted out i didn't have any problems with supcom... ran for many hours playing all the scenarios just fine.

regarding lost planet, i dunno if the other night was a fluke or what but i've haven't had any more problems with it. no crashes or computer shutdowns... knock on wood.

ya i'm not looking to install vista... its very tempting but all the issues are something i'd rather avoid. XP is fine for now. maybe when crysis comes out i'll have to setup vista on a spare drive so i can play with the dx10 requirement...

Is it just me or do these boards scream under load ? It's a very highpitched sound and it seems to come from pwm area.
Is there a solution for this ?

On air after 3 days on this board, I was getting a bit frustrated because no matter what I did my cpu could not past 3750mhz which was stable orthos 14hrs on blend. Well come to realized that I needed to reset cmos completely instead of starting from the stable 3750 overclock, apparently one of the settings would not allow the cpu to scale higher. Got it sorted out and below are the pics. I need to tweak the volts a bit more as at 4100mhz i saw 69-70c after 1hr orthos then I brought it down to 4000mhz and ran it with less volts and temps were somewhat ok at the 25min mark highest temps were 65c. Hopefully I control temps to at least 60c under load, then onto memory tweaking. I was good up to 495 fsb when I dropped multi to 7x. Enjoy

Jobeo, what were your final voltages and GTL settings? I'm curious.

My board makes a bit of buzzing when running small FFT's but it's barely audible and not an issue as far as I'm concerned.

    Board is 2 days old,
    specs:
    E4300@3200@1,39v
    8800 GTS 320mb @ stock
1GB G.Skill GBHZ (2nd is dead, time for rma)
    X-Fi
    Decathlon 750W
CPU cooled by Apogee GTX, Laing DDC an BI 360GTS 3 Fans
GPU cooled by EK Cooler same pump and rad as first loop.
Bios is the one shipped with the board, 5/21.
As i received the board the wasn`t any seal on the package and the bios jumper was set to clear cmos not normal position, did i get a rma board ?

Edit: i don`t think it has something to do with bios settings but will check this.
The sound only comes when doing dual prime, when encodng x264 HDTV the sound is barely noticable like someone said.

    haha

My SB heatsink fan makes a noise when running 100%

If it's not fan related, It'll probably be the PWM's. I'd RMA it.
