Thanks Tony, Bingo, Rgone & Raja. Its better to have a great performing board free of initial quirks than one plagued with issues. Come on guys. Surely most of us have been through enough 680i woes that we could appreciate a board being released when its free of issues (both my evga & abit in9 32-max had nothing but issues when I first got them). I'd rather the DFI 680i be just like the P965-S. A joy to own right out the box, no matter what cpu you stick it in.

I think it is nothing more than needing a BIOS update and Oskar already found the problem tonight as Tony commented on. The question is just how well will this new Beta work tonight. Otherwise, the majority of problems that the first 680i boards had with SLI, RAID, Audio, USB are not an issue right now. We have to make sure the new BIOS did not break anything, but if the 4MB C2D and Quad problems are fixed, then this is one very fast board with the right settings. As I said earlier, I really like the board, the BIOS was just in need of further tuning and Oskar has obviously been working on it.

    Awesome!

This board and the overclocking community in general is fortunate to have so many great gurus like you, Tony, Raja and Rgone, etc. working on new products to help iron out the issues!

    OK...more news.

    Bios installed...much much better

    What you need to do:

1 leave all cpu options by default.

2 NB voltage has to be tweaked to suit each CPU....so you will need to tweak for your rig, no 2 settings the same.

3 1T clocking still seems better than 2T..for me anyway. Im testing 462fsb x9 with a 6700 and 4-4-3-4-4-1-2-8-7.8us 1T, something I could NOT do before the bios supplied tonight.

So yes things have taken a U turn in the past 3 hrs

Wow, that's outstanding... 462x9?! That's 4.1GHz! What kind of cooling?

Also, can you share some of the other voltage insights you've got?

    On phase..

I will write a small guide, no 2 rigs are going to work the same with this board so you will have to tweak and set what suits.

its fast though, good ram like flex 9200 or reaper 9200 running 900 ish 1T is real nice

    Awesome stuff!

I may be one of the few who's board shipped out today before the update... how should I go about getting the latest bios?

I think all the beta guys will cross compare and find out if there are any similarities across settings, that way Tony can stick up something a little more conclusive about how to get the best from the board with Conroes and Quads...

As we have found out, every board and CPU combination has been just a little different when using the same settings.

I'll be glad to help and contribute. I've had every other 680i out so i feel i'm pretty familiar with this chipset and what it can and can't do. I just need some bios to play with.

My board should be coming tomorrow. Here's hoping the beta BIOS will be available soon to the public.

Coming from the AMD platform is it.. However, i noticed immediately that all Intel based boards are more expensive than my AMD setups ever were. Think about the added cost for the socket setup, the multi phase power system, dual to quad lans, 6-8 SATA ports, Onboard Audio, and the RAID and all of the little things like wireless options, etc.

DFI is unique in a sense that there board doesnt follow any reference designs. They think ahead before designing.. they also make mods during the alpha/beta process to benefit the end user. Also, keep in mind that DFI is a second tier manf, so they dont get their hands on first release chips like Asus, MSI and Gigabyte does. I will gladly pay DFI $320 for a motherboard before i would ever give Asus $300 for their junk. MSI is a nice second option with the Diamond coming out for those who feel DFI cant deliver.

    Still showing stock.

How did you get in with DFI to do testing if I may ask? I would like to inquire into that myself.

I wouldnt pay more than $200 for any mobo, I just dont see it, also aside from benching sli isnt a viable option anyway, with a 1680x1050 res I can play anything happily with a single 8800gtx. I was just hoping this mobo would priced somewhat sanely cuz its probably he only 680 mobo i would pay for.

    Hey,

Any idea if the nF680i chipset can/will support future CPU's (Penryn etc.). I suppose it would be more profitable for nV to release a new chipset and scalp us that way though
