Advice on Future UFO [REVISED] Project

Revised: I decided to opt for a custom UFO case. Please give me your thoughts and experiences with your UFO cases, especially custom designs. I ultimately want the most rad options. I don't see a use for 2 PSU's and I don't have need of more than five 5 1/4 bays. I'm going to use a 5 in 3 SATA Enclosures [3 x 5.25" to 5 x 3.5"], 1 DVD drive, and 1 more 5 1/4" for a media inputs.

I'm going to be divorced for sure. Today I placed my order for a PA120.3 and my U2-UFO Horizon from Mountain Mods. It is going to be Black with Smoked Grey windows with Original Top.

    http://www.mountainmods.com/product_...roducts_id=350

Finalized. Everything but the UFO is in the closet axiously awaiting assembly.
    U2-UFO Horizon
    Thermochill 120.3
    Intel E6600
    Intel 975XBX2 Motherboard
    Firestix 2GB PC2-6400
    EVGA 8800 GTX 768MB
    150GB Raptor
    3x300GB Maxtor DiamondMax 10
    Corsair HX620W PSU
    Vista Ultimate
    Dell 2405FP LCD

    More to be determined....

Yea, I'll be paying up for a long long time when that thing shows up on the front porch.

So this thing has fans everywhere and I want to minimize wires. I'm going to buy sleaved fans and I want to reduce clutter with all the 3 to 4 pin adapters and such that normally comes with fans and just buy the fans with just a 3 pin connector.

Then, I'm thinking about a BigNG.

    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=20837

but then I want to connect say 3 fans to 1 channel on this thing -- the PA120.3 for instance.

    I found this

    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=20363

but I'm not crazy about the lights and does anyone know of a tri-splitter?

Is there a way to stick 2 rads in that case? Say a PA120.3 and a PA120.2?

Ugggg...I just called and it will be Monday or Tuesday before it ships and then it has a long ground trip to the East coast.

I'm going to pick up 8 D12SL-12 sleaved Yate Loons and some sleaved Y connectors and a BigNG controller. I like the idea of having an autoshutdown feature if the pump dies.

I'm trying to decide on the fan grills. Basic black grills like so:
    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...roducts_id=738
or "signed and notarized papers" expensive ones like
    http://www.mnpctech.com/MnpctechBilletFanGrill.html

I have a feeling I know which ones you guys will say.

Don't stress mate single life is pretty sweet these dayz, heaps of single chicks and most of them are easy :-P

LOVELY case to I'm doing the smoked plex on my own cube case im building inspired by U2-UFO cases.

Best of luck with the missus, early "training" in marriage avoids such problems as a rule... perhaps just threaten to "trade her in" on a newer "model" if she keeps up with the grief LoL

My order still hadn't shipped today, so I called and asked Ben about customizing the order. Unfortunately, it will put a huge delay on getting my box, but I hope it will mean I'll be happier in the long run.

Honestly, I just didn't care for the looks of fans on top (in a Horizon) even though I know it sends airflow across the mobo. It bothered me that holes in the back weren't spaced with a thermochill 120.2 in mind. I also don't see a need for a second psu.

I'm considering a variation on somethign I saw IanY proposed at one time.

    Proposed:
    1) 1203 chasis with a duality front
    2) No extra PSU, but a triple fans on back left. This could be spaced for a thermochill as well.
    3) Original Top (hence 6 fans in 5 out)
    4) Smoked Grey Windows
    5) Wrinkled black finish (http://mountainmods.com/gallery/album41)

Has anyone done customizations and care to share their experience?

The custom thing takes forever.. have to be patient.

You can double the size of the case

Here's my second custom case, and this was revised downwards. I had originally wanted something even bigger (4 feet high) with even more radiators. Think of what I have to buy my wife!

Strategy is two rads for each component: cpu, gpu1 and gpu2. The rest is for everything else. The debate is to TEC or not to TEC, and the more people protest about how irrational it is to TEC, the more determined I am to accomplish it.

LOL @ that doc! My wife would flip!

My patience needs a little work.

Do you think it need a fan on the side to blow down on the mobo?

Any completed build pics of your first system?

How do you get MM to respond to emails? Even a simple request for a custom black powdercoat top with 2 fans and no window was ignored. Are you using Sales@MountainMods.com as the email address?

Same problem here, I emailed 'em back on the 8th requesting a price for a custom rear panel so that a 120.2 would mate up to the 2x120mm holes. I even told them that I was going to place the order as soon as they gave me a price, I just wanted to decide if the minute increase in performance was worth the extra expense. I have yet to receive a response from them. I emailed them a followup message this morning when I got to work, I hope to hear something from them soon. Why can't everyone be like Petra's!?

I don't have the authority to speak for MM, but I hear they are slammed daily with custom requests. Currently the process isn't automated, so I imagine it takes a lot of time manually process each request. Also, a custom case has to be done in parallel with a production run. The current production run is going to last another couple weeks. I was told there would be a 10 to 12 week delay on a custom case. I just sent them an email about my custom case idea, but I don't expect a response right away. Ben did say they will be adding some custom options to their web site in the near future and implement even more custom options later down the road, which will help alleviate this email bottleneck and automate (i.e. speed up) the process which is currently too slow.

And your thoughts on the build?

IanY, that works well for most people, but it's kinda rough when you're like 12 hours ahead of them and you work 12-14 hours a day as it is. :P

There must be some way of co-joining two regular run of the mill cases.

At least you got the 12 week custom time frame. The time frame I got is even longer.

The problem is by not responding they make the situation worse - they then get repeats to deal with. I have sent 5 emails in the last couple of months none of which have received a response. How long does it take to respond saying thank for your request. It will be considered after the X other custom requests that we are currently processing?

    I can't argue with that.
