So drugs are usefull after all...

Another tip: tomato ketchup might work out quite good too on copper. Take a few milliliters of ketchup and spread it over your copper parts, let it work in for a short moment and then remove all the ketchup again.

fine steel wool and dish soap & water will remove the oxidation which blocks heat transfer on the bottom and inside.
    The Laws of Thermodynamics say:

Zeroth Law: "You must play the game."
    First Law: "You can't win."
Second Law: "You can't break even."
Third Law: "You can't quit the game."

Do you wanna Play Thermodynamics ???????? I forgot "you must"

Where on earth has that pot been lol? How can it possibly get that dirty when all it does is cool a CPU or is just left on a desk or something.

Like Walt said, I would use fine steel wool, wash it and then if you want it to shine even more, use some polish (like brasso).

Submerge the whole thing in vinegar! LOL jk. Ketchup should work. If you want the base nice and shiny, just set it in a glass or ceramic bowl with 2cm or so of clear vinegar in it, for about 2hrs. Remove and rinse immediately

CU oxidizes rather easily, in fact just touching one causes discoloration. Even after a couple of DI sessions a newly machined virgin container has walls that are starting to darken & brown. I think this is a good tip, steel wool will do more surface damage to our preciously lapped bases than this will any day. I was thinking of trying some form of clear lacqeur but there's a good chance it can't handle the temperatures.

Steel wool is ok as long as its VERY fine . I can make evaps very shiny with some stuff I have.

Either the fine steel wool or 1500+ grit sand paper. Although it takes a lot more effort because of keeping the paper and material wet all the time .
