I've been reading lots of threads here but I can't really determine if there is a sound card that is good for both hi-fidelity audio and gaming. I definitely want a card that does true 24bit/96KHz input/output since I'm planning on doing a lot of vinyl preservation and would like to turn this into an HTPC someday. any recommendations? my budget is up to $200.

some cards have 1/4 jacks some dont.

I don't need any fancy connectors, just the standard spdif and 1/8" mini stereo jacks. It looks like the E-MU has 1/4" jacks and also doesn't mention anything about DirectSound or EAX acceleration... are you sure it's good for gaming?
The HT Omega looks great.
Any other recommendations?
btw I checked out the Envy like the Chaintech AV-710... but the low price turns me off... what are your thoughts? why do they price it so low?

Regarding the 710, The headphone/front speaker output is awesome, but the other outputs don't quite measure up, so it's a great headphone sound card.

if it were me, i'd get an inexpensive x-fi for the EAX, and then a decent envy24ht-based card for the actual sound... the Aureon 7.1 Space has great DACs and ADCs and doesn't cost as horrendously much as a Universe, but the Universe has a front breakout. there's also the Universe Firewire, which is great if you're running windows, but has zero linux compatibility.
if you're running linux, you could use alsa's dmix plugin to accomplish the same thing as velbac, except it'll actually run faster... i don't think linux supports much EAX anyways though
