I don't know about them anymore, but Dells used to use high-end Sony stuff. I couldn't comment on the other brands, but generally if the monitor is on and displaying, for example, a black box somewhere and the black is very black and not kind of greyish, then that means its contrast ratio should be very good.
Some companies try to weasel out of contrast ratios by over-brightening things, but it's the dark blacks that you want to look for.

Sounds like you need to calibrate.
Windows 7 + SSD:
Mode: AHCI, default Microsoft driver or latest Intel RST
Defrag: Off
Hibernation: Off (use Sleep mode, recommend a UPS)
Indexing: On (it only indexes a few locations, not your whole system unless you tell it to)
Page File: On (set to the minimum of 16MB if you have a large amount of RAM, disabling not recommended)
Prefetch: On
Superfetch: On (RAM is always faster than an SSD - use it)
System Restore: Off (with regular backups)
Browser Cache: RAM Only, Disk Cache Off (How to with Chrome)
Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, Downloads to HDD (Public Libraries too, see above link about junctions)
UAC: On!
going with what soulburner wrote,
i have the 24" dell and after i calibrated it i think the colors and everything are awesome. I just used a spyder calibrator thingy that my dad uses for his tv's and it turned out a lot better than i thought. tbh i was very skeptical but it proved me wrong.

Dell's at least are some of the best lcd's on the market bang for the $. Dunno what you may be looking at that leads you to think otherwise, but many users of them enjoy them. So no not all are the same, or poor quality.
lmao, not if you compare a dell with samsung

Hmmm interesting I have Dell 3007WFP and to me that image seems better ( but I'm not biased lmao ) Do you ned to calibrate in the driver as the digital feed should be good --only brightness up or down on da screen. Am I missing something. I find i have to turn down the brightness on the Dell but my eyesight isn't what it was lmao. BTW she's lovely![]()
I know for sure that the 2007WFP (i have one myself) uses a LG.Phillips S-IPS panel, and it looks damn nice.
Compare it to my frinds 206BW Samsung and my 2007WFP looks alot sharper.
